Madness in Ghost City
Without being told Jane knew that something was off the moment the taxi driver stopped. She tried as much as she could to identify where the driver had stopped her and the reason for stopping but she could see anything in sight. Everything was in total darkness and void that she could not make out if the car was upside down or not. When she tried to call the attention of the driver just to understand why he stopped, he was met with great silence which made her draw closer to the driver’s seat only to find out that there was no one on the seat. Alas! Where was the driver and who was driving the cab all this while? These were the thoughts running through her confused. She began to go back to the events that have happened in the journey. She remembered that she flagged the cab to a stop, she also remembered that she had a little chat with the driver who assured her that he could take her to her destination and she also remembered that at some point in the journey the driver engaged her in a little discussion bothering around politics and governance. So, how on earth is there no one in the driver’s seat as the cab came to a halt?
Jane began to search through her purse to get her phone in other to use her phone touch light to see clearly where the cab had stopped. To her greatest surprise, she could not find her phone and it seemed as though the bag she was holding was not hers. This made her more confused so she resolved to open the door of the taxi just to know what was happening and where the driver had gone leaving her all alone in this strange place. As she opened the door, she felt such very hot air which made it so hard for her to step out of the taxi. When she tried to have a clear vision of her surroundings she found out that her eyes were seriously failing her and this made her more confused and angry.
Where am I? Can anyone hear me? Somebody, please help me. Jane began to call out loudly hoping that somebody will come to her rescue in other to explain to her what and where she was. After such a long, loud and stressful call for help, she decided to take the bull by the horn and face the consequence. She opened the taxi door and stepped out only to find herself in such a void state which made her more worried and confused. As she tried to take a step away from the cab, she felt a slight push which made her move away from the door of the taxi and instantly, the door closed. Before she could say a word the taxi sped off.
It was at this point that Jane’s confusion became overwhelming such much that she began to cry. She was not crying because she found herself in an unknown place rather she was crying because her only source of getting back to her family has just driven off leaving her there. As she was still in her state of confusion, she heard a voice calling her name.
She looked around in great fear because the darkness that surrounded her was so much that she was unable to see even the person standing next to her. The voice calls out her name again but this time it sounded very close just beside her. This made her quiver in fear because she could hear someone calling her name but she could not see anything in sight. She decided to make use of her hands since her eyes were completely useless in such a place. As she moved her hands around trying to see if she will feel any object or person around her, her curiosity was brought to a halt when her hand felt something very weird. Jane could not tell what she touched because what it was she touched felt cold and hot, wet and dry, soft and hard. She could not recognize what she had touched but as she opened her to ask a question, she heard her name again but this time the voice was that of her grandmother who had died several months ago.
Since she was able to recognize the voice, she quickly responded by asking her grandma to take her out of the place but to her greatest surprise, the voice spoke up again but in a different tone. The voice told her that she cannot go anywhere that she is in the Ghost City. Jane could not understand what the voice was saying so she asked for more explanation. It was at this time that the voice told her to look into her palms for the answer she seeks. The response was not acceptable to Jane because she knew that there was no way she could see her palms due to the total darkness that surrounded her.
As she was about to say another word, the voice repeated the same thing but this time around in the tone of her grandma. As Jane opened her palms, she felt a great force from behind which made her fall but the thing was just that she was falling into her palms. As she was trying to understand what was happening, she began to see her life a few minutes before her encounter with the taxi driver. She saw how a car knocked her down as she wanted to cross over to the other side of the road. She could not believe it when she saw herself in the mortuary as her father can to identify her corps. As she tried to reach out to grab her father in that madness, a strong force drew her back into thick darkness and void. It was then that she realized that she was in the land of the dead.
