It has gotten worse

It has become worst than anyone can imagine and yet nobody seems to be talking about it. Each time I look back from where we began to downtrend, it makes me sick because it leaves me wondering if we understand or truly know that we are sinking gradually. Can you imagine the emotions that were running very high when the ill-fated Titanic was sinking? I believe that everyone who had a part to play was seriously busy trying out every opportunity both the possible and impossible as a means to save more lives.

That goes to show that human beings are created in such a manner that once things are going wrong, their instinct will spur them into action in a bid to save the situation. My greatest worry is that we have crossed the line between fighting for survival and watching helplessly for the whole ship to sink. Those in the western world may not understand what I am about to say but I believe that there is a great need for a reawakening of the spirit of Survival in humankind especially those within the shores of Africa and Nigeria in particular.

The Reawakening

I presume you might still be trying to understand what I am trying to talk about in this article but I believe that if you follow me carefully without blinking your eyes, you will come to a better understanding. When a heart is troubled, it does not rest nor merry until it finds peace. My question is; what changed in us or better still, how did we become so comfortable with moral decadence around us? This is a question that needs an urgent answer because the more we delay the more we run the risk of losing everything in one snap. Most times we end up blaming it on the government and the bad policies they make which has become our very undoing at every turn. Another question that needs an urgent answer is; what role have we played as individuals to help save the situation?

This is one of the very questions that bugs my heart every morning as soon as I wake up and turn the radio on for the early morning news. This is because the moment you turn the radio or the television you will begin to hear about stories that will make you shudder in disbelief. Most of these stories are not acts done by the government, they are acts done by individuals who have thrown the water used in bathing the baby and the baby away.

How can you blame the government in a case where a man of 45 years throws away every sense of humanity in him and decides to rape a child of 6 years? How can you blame the government for the wicked act of some group of bad people who go around the community causing all sorts of social vices? How on earth will you blame it on the government when a lecturer decides to sleep with his students in other for them to pass his course? How can you blame it on the government when a father decides not to take care of his family but instead choose to lavish his money on alcohol and girls?

There are over a million reasons to show that we have failed in our very little way and yet we still blame everything on the government. I remembered back in the days while I was growing up, we use to see an act of helping people as something we must do and not ask for anything in return. I have countless times found myself helping a stranger whose car got faulty to push it in a bid to see if it can start. We were doing all those things without expecting any form of incentive and even when these people extend a hand of gratitude through a gift of money or any other thing, we will say thank you and reject them but now the reverse is the case. Everyone is out to make money even from acts of charity and this is why the spirit of charity is gradually dying off especially within the shores of Africa.

A few days ago I was watching over the news how people were busy breaking into other people’s businesses (shopping malls) and carting with goods worth millions and thousands of dollars just because there was unrest. This does not only happen in Africa, it also happens in the western world. My question each time I see this barbaric act is; the person you have broken into his shop to steal his goods, is he the reason why your country is not progressing? The truth is that we do not know when and how to make our feelings to be heard when there is wrongdoing either by the government or an individual. What we are very much good at is rushing to hasty conclusions and taking actions that will still turn around to hurt us.

If we can be very sincere to ourselves, we will understand that we have all missed the mark especially those of us within the shores of Africa. If the government has failed in their duties, you should not use that as an excuse to commit a crime against your fellow countryman who is also facing the same problems you are facing. It may sound so foreign to you but I want you to make a conscious sober reflection on the things I have talked about in this article because I believe is not about the information we hear, rather it is what we do with the information that matters. If we continue to play deaf ears to this glaring truth, then one day we will wake up to realise that we have no country or continent to call our own.

Just with this covid19 saga, a lot of countries have lied or tried to manipulate their way into getting the necessary funds from the World Bank which is given to help cushion the effects of the economic meltdown caused by the virus. You may think that I am just talking because I want to talk but the truth is in a country where it is in the public domain that the virus has been dictated, how then does such a country carry out large gatherings by the same government who has said that covid19 has entered the country? Why then do they allow large gatherings if the virus has been dictated? Let me assume that they want to play safe by either telling the people that the virus is in the country whereas it is just a means to keep everyone at bay. What if it was just a means to achieve an end that will only benefit the cabals? Well, we do not know but I will leave you to answer these questions by yourself because I believe we learn better by researching, asking and answering questions.

Conclusion

Take a look at yourself in the mirror and try to understand why you have changed either negative or positive. When you examine yourself you will understand that most of our problems emanate from us.

  • ·        When last did you go out of your way to help another without being expectant of anything in return?

  • ·        When last did you follow the path of justice even when it was going to hurt you?

  • ·        How have you contributed to the growth of your immediate community?

  • ·        Can you be trusted with the money for community projects and you will end up delivering?

We may have a bad system of government but I strongly believe that we do not have a society filled with wicked and selfish people. The only thing we need is to look back into the sands of time in other to know where and how we have gone wrong. Be the best you can be at all times. Don’t give room for things to get worse under your care.

We are the enemy of ourselves, this is a wonderful topic and a self re-evaluation to everyone.

Just showing love without the need to get something in return is transformation, indeed good governance starts with the people...God bless you Sir

A lot of things had changed in this generation. Helping out someone and expecting something in return is rampant, eveb worse taking the helping act into social media and praising oneself.. this generation has become narcissistic

This is great, we are fond of blaming the government for everything happening in the country whereas we all have a hand in the challenges the country is facing.

We complain of the government not providing jobs and we spend millions on sugar girls and vacations, not just the government have failed us - we also played a role in the damage on ground.

Whether we like it or not, we must be able to do the right things at all times before we can see a better society.

Everyone must play their part, trying to show superiority with one's wealth when others are struggling is a show of shame.

Great write up

This is the country we found ourselves. We are the problem of our country then we put the blame on the government for our own mistake.

We are the major cause of destruction and corruption. I just have we have a better country as anticipated.

We only need to accept that we have failed as individuals and I believe that it will spur us into doing the right thing.

This is a self assessment call to everyone. We can't keep on blaming the government when we ourselves have our own shortcomings.

We must play our part in this drama called life otherwise we will end up losing even the little we have.

Self examination is necessary, we need to keep checking ourselves. We should try as much as possible not to be our own enemies.

I pray for good governance, that God will touch the heart of our leaders and also the siege of pandemic across the nation will be wiped off.
