I'd like to start seeing more Read.Cash people using decentralized social media like Member.cash (aka Member). This post is aimed at Read.Cash users who are not yet on Member and want to start an account there but also may not have enough Bitcoin Cash (BCH) to start posting.

To post on Member.cash, it just costs one satoshi per byte, which is a very tiny amount (depends on the size of your post). Most posts will cost you just a few satoshis or a fraction of a cent. But if you don't have any BCH yet, this can be problematic to start posting on Member.

Here is where I would like to help people to start using Member.cash. If you setup an account, I will send you some satoshis in Bitcoin Cash so you can begin making a few posts and using the platform.

How to start using Member

To start using Member.cash, you will need to create an account. Accounts are based on Bitcoin Cash public/private keys. To sign up and create an account, go to https://member.cash and click on Start in the top menu.

Click Start, click Make New Phrase, then click Login

When you click on Start, you can create a new Bitcoin Cash passphrase for your wallet or use an existing one and enter it to login. If you don't understand this part, just click on "Make New Phrase" to begin. It is important you write down the 12 word passphrase offline for safe keeping. This is for your Member wallet. Don't share it with anyone. Also, it's worth noting that Member.cash is a Javascript implementation meaning, all the key creation and info is client-side and contained within your web browser and not passed to a central server database. If you lose your passphrase, nobody can help you recover it.

Once you have your passphrase, click Login to begin. Here you will be presented with a giant yellow screen with your Member Bitcoin Cash address and QR code. You can't miss it (also shown below in yellow). This is where I want to help people new to Member get started.

This screenshot is for illustration purposes only, do not send any BCH to this address

If you are a new user to Member.cash, and don't have any BCH to start, I will send you a few satoshis so you can start making some posts and creating content on Member.

How to get free satoshis in Bitcoin Cash for Member

Once you have done the above, created your account, and logged in, and only if you need some satoshis to get started, simply comment on this post below your Member profile URL. To get this, after being logged in, click on the cog Settings icon in the top menu (next to the books), scroll down to see "Profile Links" and then click on "Member." On the next page in the URL you will have your Member profile URL. It should look like this:

https://member.cash/index.html#member?qaddress=17qT9vz2BUvU8JN1k6kHWKYKtbgmBfpHiH

If you comment me below and link me to that Member profile URL, I will be able to see your BCH Member address and verify you created your account and I will send a few satoshis there to help you get started.

Why should you use Member.cash

Member is a decentralized social network. It's built on top of the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) blockchain, and uses the Memo protocol. This means that all posts are immutable and cannot be censored. All content and actions are broadcast to the BCH blockchain.

Other features include that it can be run by anyone anywhere in the world. As long as you know a little bit of coding, you can deploy your own Member implementation on your own website and run it there, or you can just run it locally on your own computer.

Another fun thing about Member is that if you post good content, people can tip you right on the platform, just like with Read.Cash. So if you post great stuff, you will be rewarded.

Lastly, Member is a great way to increase Bitcoin Cash usage. By using Member, you not only engage with others on-chain but you increase transaction usage helping to fuel adoption and growth in the BCH ecosystem.

Are you trying to take people away from Read.Cash?

No, of course not! I love Read.Cash and think it's been one of the greatest platforms built on BCH. I'd like to see people use both in parallel. The main advantage of Member.cash is that's it's fully decentralized, and offers people another way to communicate with each other using Bitcoin Cash.

Disclaimer

If for some reason I feel someone is trying to game the system by making fake Member accounts for free BCH, I won't send any for that person. It's up to my discretion. Additionally, my time zone may be different than yours so please allow at least a day or two from leaving a comment below for me to send you some free BCH to your Member profile.

If you have any questions, post them in the comments below!

Sure, it's a bit rough around the edges but it's not centralized like Noise or Read. It's a decentralized protocol, but I totally agree it needs a lot of work.
