Salon Problems
Good day, this morning was one of those where I struggled to wake up on time. I have an alarm set in case I don't wake up early on my own. When the alarm went off, I couldn't help but snooze it. I was really tired, sleepy and just not ready to face the day. Eventually, I got up and made a list in my head of all the things I needed to do.
This morning, I had the usual meeting and I was assigned a ton of work to do. It really sucked because I did a lot yesterday in limited time. Maybe that is why I've been given a lot to do today; they probably think it's easy because I finished in a short time — the curse of being an efficient worker lol.
I started doing what I had to do and along the line, I got distracted by my environment. When I'm going through a creative process, I usually like to be in the zone and block out any unnecessary distractions but that didn't work out today. Things were going well, I had to run an errand, there were knocks on the door and later I received a phone call. Everything threw me off balance and I could barely remember my thought process so I had to start again, it really sucked too.
Another dilemma I was facing was that I needed to make my hair. I have somewhere to be tomorrow and I needed to look alright. Yesterday, I stopped at my hairdresser's shop after work but she wasn't around and I was devastated. Today, I couldn't wait till work was over, I packed up my laptop and headed to the salon. I was so happy to see she was around and only had one customer. It is expected as most people are at work and would find come rushing in the evening like I did yesterday.
I greeted the hair stylist and her customer and I told her what I wanted to do. All was going fine for those few seconds until she dropped the bomb that she had a home service. That is, she had to go make someone's hair in their home. I couldn't be more devastated. I had come that far to be disappointed. I didn't leave though. In fact, I'm still in the shop, hoping for some miracle lol. You know when you find someone who does something well or too your liking, you'll develop customer loyalty to the person. That is how it is for me and why I don't want to go to another hairdresser.
She said the other lady who works for her may show up later to help. The other lady is just as good as she is and I don't mind having her make my hair. The problem is that it is unsure if she will be showing up today, I pray she does.
Now, I'm just sitting here writing this article. Another reason I like this shop is because it is different from most shops. This lady does not bring up unnecessary gossip. She focuses on her art and delivers brilliantly. She passes comments once in a while to make you feel present and she tries to indulge some talkative customers but she has her limits. I had a shop I went to before I discovered this current one. The lady was skilled and experienced but she gossiped too much.
On my first day at her store, I had only been the for about ten minutes when she started telling me about her life and giving me extremely intimate details I didn't ask for and definitely didn't need, it was awkward for me but she was having fun and even bragging her youthful escapades. That was a red flag I ignored because she was the only hair dresser I knew at the time. What was worse was when she proceeded to ask me personal questions about myself; I politely declined to answer and I know she didn't like it.
My hair looked good that day so I kept going back to her, it was easier than looking for an alternative who may not be as good. From consequent visits, I noticed that whenever a customer left, she would say something bad about the person. It could be someone she just finished sharing laughs and gossips with. She would spill personal details about the person which they must have told her in confidence.
Another thing was she sometimes didn't do what a customer asked for. She's quite good at her job and she knows it so she valued her own choices and opinions over her customer's. It's okay to give advices and recommendations as a professional but it's not OK to impose them. At the end of the day she's supposed to do what the customer asked for.
That's all for today, I hope I'm able to make my hair today.
Salon shops and gossip is like 5&6. It's just few that's void of this feature. Funny, barbers too have this same habit. My current barber is fond this and he always welcome me with gist every Saturday.
His personal matters oo! He'd tell me check and rate how he controlled/solved a problem in his house, or bring a current issue in his household me to give advice. I'm tired of the guy but that's the only salon around 🤗
