How to over depression

Hello Mes Amis,

Yesterday, been Sunday 25th of September 2022, went really well for me. I decided to worship in another church which I was invited to. This is actually my first invitation in a very long time, so I decided to take it up and use that opportunity to explore other worship centers and I wasn't disappointed. I thank for his mercy over the church and the saints in general.

The silent demon; depression

According to an Wikitionary, depression is defined as;

  1. (psychology) in psychotherapy and psychiatry, a state of mind producing serious, long-term lowering of enjoyment of life or inability to visualize a happy future

  2. (psychology) in psychotherapy and psychiatry, a period of unhappiness or low morale which lasts longer than several weeks and may include ideation of self-inflicted injury

Hence, that feeling of sadness, gloominess and general unhappiness or even anxiety over a long period of time can be termed depression. People get depressed for a different reasons and I can say we all have had our moments of depressions before whether short or long. In which ever case, you would agree with me that that feeling isn't a nice one as it drains one of morale, strength, Joy, appetite and ability to focus.

Where most people might experience depression for a short period of time due to a particular event, others have a chronic medical condition of depression which is called Dysthymia. They just feel sad, not worthy to live, gloomy and demoralised all the time. They feel like just giving up on everything and don't really seem to have a reason to live for. The more you try to get them to do something worthwhile, the more they see the discouragement in it. They are just plain sad. This persistent medical condition can be close by tragic events that happened during their childhood or at some point in the life that has left them so heart broken and depressed. Another cause of this is the spiritual aspect in which the soul of that person is been tormented by demons or familiar Spirit.

Whichever the cause, there are ways of curing this bad condition.

  1. I'd like to talk about the spiritual aspect first, because it deals with the soul and spirit of a man and if the soul and Spirit of a man are in peace and stability, then the outward actions and vibe will be in peace and tranquility. Just as I have sad, demons or familiar spirits can afflict one's soul and cause long lasting depression with unexplainable origin. To this, one needs a stronger and much more powerful Spirit to take control and deliver one from these depression causing spirits. The only spirit ever known to do this is the Holy Spirit and you can only have him when you give your life to Jesus. He will deliver you and help you remain in that state of deliverance. He is he spirit of Christ and he shall give you peace and Joy for Jesus is the Prince of Peace and to unspeakable Joy of God. So, what are you waiting for? Why not run to Jesus today and get delivered from those wicked spirits?

  2. To the psychological aspect; I love to always look at things in the spiritual and physical aspect, although the spiritual always comes first. A person may not necessarily be torment by demons, it may be due to an event that happened causing the depression experienced. For example the death of a loved one or been sacked from work or promise and fail situations, etc. In this case one needs both the spiritual and psychological assistance. The spiritual assistance can be gotten from God's word; this will sooth your mind and give you peace. Then the physical which is as follows;

  1. Decided to be happy. This is actually the first step before every deliverance both spiritual and physical. You must decide to be happy no matter what. Your decision will help facilitate your recovery.

  2. Surround yourself with optimistic and positive people and object. It's true that the world is in two sides; good and bad, but a person trying to overcome depression doesn't need to bother himself or herself with negative or pessimistic stuffs. You need to surround yourself with people that can give you positive vibes, people that are optimistic and tend to see the good in a situation more than he bad. You needed to surround yourself with positive, optimistic and pure objects. Pure in the sense that it won't trigger sadness or anxiety. For example, a person trying to overcome depression shouldn't watch brutal movies or depressing objects. Rather, he or she should watch more of funny, love inspiring and person developmental movies.

  3. Leave the present task; If the cause of the depression is a task you are to complete, it is best you leave it for sometime. Take a break for it. Go out, have fun or engage in other activities, leisure activities to be specified. There is no point in continuing doing a thing causing you depression. You won't even be productive in that state. So, why not give yourself a break. You can always come back to when you have strengthened your mental state and with much courage, enthusiasm, vigor and intellectual capability.

  4. Avoid bad and sad news; In my country, cases of people slumming and dying is getting rampant these days and they all have one thing in common; BAD NEWS. A man was said to have suddenly slum and died in his work place when he heard from the news that some terrorist attacked a community. It was said that he had been treating prolonged anxiety and Dysthymia for sometimes before the incident. So, shun bad or sad news for now and focus on the good ones. Make yourself happy. You deserve it and your life depends on it!

Yes my friend, avoid the bad and sad news because it's not good for a person or someone who received it, it might the reason to trigger the people's negativities.
