Valentine today is Overrated

I am about to shake some table here. But mind you, this is not to offend anyone. I know you're all fan's and lovers of valentines.

What is valentine

Valentine is a festival held in mid-February for lovers to express and share their love and affection by giving out giftss and greetings to each other.

Valentine's day also known as lovers day can be said to have originated from a festival of Lupercalia, a Roman festival. This festival was held to celebrate the pairing of women and men by lottery, which is then later modified into St.Valentines day by Pope Gelasius after he forbid the Roman's festival of Lupercalia between the 5th and 6th century.

However valentine has a more longer history, origin and meaning than the ones currently being celebrated for. As another record of history showed how valentine's celebration started with a more darker history performed during the festival which includes dark stuff like; blood sacrifices, drinking and abuse of women by men.

But only those that have done a deep research regarding the topic will have this knowledge on the history of valentines.

Nevertheless, I'm not here to talk about the history of valentines but of how the festival or celebration is overrated. And besides, who cares what some old people did centuries ago. This is our era. Now let's not waste time beating around the bush and let's get into the main topic.

Valentine's day today

Valentine's day today is so overrated as people are now celebrating it for all the wrong reasons. I mean, it is said to be a lovers day, a time for lovers to reconnect by sharing gifts mostly and share heart gracing greetings.

But we can all agree that this day is no longer a day for actual lovers to celebrate their affection for one another but only for other shameless reasons.

In valentine, hearts get broken more than being loved and nurtured. Relationships break instead of being strengthened, more lovers cheat in relationships during this period instead of fixing the important ones. Young girls and boys get wasted and spoiled.

Today, this period is used and will be used in its name by most people to do the unthinkable and some nasty things. Taking advantage of all the good reasons other nice people are celebrating it for. Sharing love and joy wrapped in shining gifts. While others share nasty heart break, dirt and disgust.

Some might say I'm saying all this because may be I don't have a valentine this year. Well... They may be right. But I have a couple of Vals the past years and honestly some have been fun and sweet while all the rest, total disappointment.

But I have seen better valentine's with lovely heart touching love shared between two people. I have seen those that ended in tears. And I have seen that they are so fake, so fake that it will disgust you.

Talking about fake, people now start relationships only for the sake of getting laid on Valentine's day. Sometimes this is one sided but most the times both parties will agree to start a relationship now and then end it when valentine is over. Isn't that disgusting? And this is not done by the minority but by the majority.

Majority if teenagers who are still in secondary school and young adults in tertiaries and universities. Especially university students, this is the period that most fresh innocent students in the university get introduced to the dark side of life. A life of lust, filth, heart break and drugs. It is sad, how these youngsters are now fully confide in the playboys that are singing the devil's song to their ears right now. Wish they really know the regret they are going to have after February 14. Terrible.

So God bless the real ones who do it for the pure unbreakable love, who do it for the good in it. Who do it for their loved ones and families and friends. God bless them all. And for the playboys and playgirls out their I say to them WISE UP and start taking responsibilities and have a good heart and stay honest.

So I guess when I said Valentine is overrated who have understood what I was pointing at. Because what most people are sharing now is not or what will be shared will not be love.
