These days, you will rarely find a person who is not into workout. Especially in my country, India, people these days are so obsessed with workout that they just wanna join gym at any cost. Many youngsters don't have enough money for diet but photographs of hulks and super muscular people fascinates them at a whole different level. As a result, they join gym but realize after a while, it's not only workout that will bring transformation but diet should also walk hand in hand with it.
Why did I write such harsh lines in the start of post only? It's just because before starting any kind of workout, you need to have your workout goal in mind.
Factors on which workout goals may depend :
Your priority at current time of your life. Suppose you are in a busy study schedule giving it all then it might not be possible for you to join a gym but you can always spare 30 minutes or so for light workout like running or training with your body weight only including exercises like push ups, pull ups, burpees etc. These will also make your mind fresh by increasing oxygen supply throughout your body.
If you wanna pursue a career in body building or gymnastics. In such cases, there are many factors to consider. Starting early is best in such case. Also, it requires for you to have money to pursue these and support of family.
If you are a working person. In such case it totally depends on your working hour, nature of work and free time slots you have. Maybe you prefer a early morning run to pump up your heart rate or maybe you prefer training in eve as to gain more muscles.
Availability of workout locations in your locality. Gyms are normal these days in every corner of cities and even some villages are having them now. But lack of open areas in unplanned cities is surely a problem for those who are fascinated by idea of working out in a grassy park on their own(calisthenics).
If you are already involved in some sort of sport activity. You might have seen footballers having awesome legs and abdominal portion, random youngsters playing different sports build awesome agility and they also put a lot of their stamina and strength in it. In such case, putting extra effort into workout is when someone wants to be better at game mostly, and such trainings are specific to game. There are rarely any who do both things like gym and playing in their daily routine apart from professionals or over enthusiasts.
Some workout types to follow :
Calisthenics : These are the exercises which don't require any apparatus and are done with your body weight only. You might have seen people doing exercises hanging on bars in the park. Those exercises come under calisthenics category. With these, you can develop strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination. Examples include : pullups, chin-ups, dips, muscle ups, burpees, jump squats, rope jumping and many others. Need of no equipment being one of their major advantage and they deliver results almost similar to weight based training.
Weight Training : In my own simple words, these are kind of exercises people join gym for. They can't be done without apparatus. Their main aim is gaining muscles. Unlike calisthenics, they have nothing much to do with flexibility. These exercise have the method of repetitions and weight increment. The weight which you can put on depends on your muscle strength and stage of training you are in(beginner, intermediate or advanced).
Examples include : barbell curls, shoulder press, weighted squats, overhead extensions and literally thousands of them. They should be started in proper guidance from a professional trainer(main reason of people joining gym). These require a proper knowledge of form of exercises. Muscle development is very important. After 30, we start losing muscles if we don't train which is also a major reason of weight gain leading to many diseases. These exercises require a good diet along side(protein intake should be good). They can be focused on gaining strength by training different muscles by planning a schedule for which part of body to hit on which day. There are a million other things about exercises under this category which you should know along with all the muscles in your body. Knowing your muscles ensure that you are hitting correct parts while working out. You can read a lot more on them online on various sources.
Cardio Exercises : As the name suggests, these exercises have something to do with heart(cardio). These are also known as aerobic exercises. These exercises keep you heart rate up, making blood pump faster. This increases the supply of oxygen throughout the body and keeps your hearts and lungs healthy. Example of these are : high knees, lateral shuffles, crab walk, standing oblique crunch, jumping jacks etc. Jogging and running also do the same work. These also don't require weight(apparatus) and are really good for burning calories and thus losing weight.
The main point of this article is to make everyone aware of the importance of having a workout goal. You shouldn't just blindly go out to seek some advice from a random gym person and join gym for the sake of muscles. You should have a goal fulfilling your dream of gaining while at the same time not making you sore as hell yielding you unable to move for the rest of the day destroying all your plans and schedule.
Some points to not if you blindly follow any routine :
You may end up hurting yourself if you start gym and try to lift heavy as a beginner only so as to gain muscles. You will gain no muscles but pain for sure.
Unsatisfactory results as you didn't even decide whether you want a healthy lifestyle or muscles like superman.
Budget issues which may occur due to no prior knowledge of diet required along side workout.
Disrupted schedule and you may end up losing the most important time of your life when you need to work on yourself with efficiency.
Unforeseen fatigue due to wrong type of workout in your daily work routine. Sleep time is also very important which you have to manage as per your workout.
Serious injuries which can knock you bedridden for rest of your lives.
There is a dire need of sticking to perfect type of workout for you which will complement your productivity providing you a healthy and happy body.
Do workout even if its 30 minutes a day, believe me it brings a big change and please don't kill yourself on advices, do your own research before adopting one.
