Meet the artist behind ProfessorWAX

0 139

This is an artist I have been chatting to for a while and his project is quite fun and I have to say between the blending and the animation its a good one to get involved in but don't take my word read what the artist had to say .

What up fam?

Good How's things?

Going really good! I just got back from my college spring break, I had some time to relax and take a break, now I feel totally ready to grind.

That's good to here so is the project 110% go now?

Most definitely! I’ve been dealing with Twitter restricting my account from full visibility and I got pretty discouraged. But I’m not the type of person to ever give up, and especially not on my dreams. So it’s full throttle from here on out, and even if I can’t get my Twitter back to normal, if your hot on AtomicHub and NeftyBlocks that’s where it counts anyways.

Of course well have you settled on your name now?

Yep, ProfessorWAX.

That's great to hear so how did you start off in crypto?

I’ve always been super into technology. One day a family member recommended that I read American Kingpin, about the person who created Silk Road. It made me realize the possibility’s and benefits of what crypto/ blockchain tech has to offer, from then on I was hooked.

I am guessing you jumped in and was it long after that you discovered NFTs?

I started investing in crypto in 2019 and tried to learn absolutely everything that I could. My uncle is a heavy investor in this space and he kept telling me to invest in WAX so I purchased some, but at that time I had no clue what it even was. Fast forward to 2021 and I couldn’t go anywhere or watch anything without hearing all about NFTs. I decided to dive in head first and stayed up all night learning how to mint my first NFT using AtomicHub.

Ah and did you know what kind of project you wanted to make?

Not at all. I come from a freelance graphic art background and I really just enjoy making whatever comes to me, or inspires me at the time of creation. Since I’ve gotten into WAX I’ve come to learn much of the full adobe suit, and now I really enjoy pushing my limits in After Effects to create high resolution, Animated, 3D assets that are optimized to work well with WAX.

What's the idea behind your project?

Just to have fun creating artwork that I think is cool and then put it out to the world. Also to try and push my boundaries of what I already know to constantly develop and grow in skills.

So will each NFT be something different or will it be sets?

It really just depends on how I’m feeling that day and what’s going on in my life. Sometimes I create art and even blends related to the Professor/Laboratory theme, other times I’ll create completely random pieces that I think are cool, or ties into something going on in my personal life.

Oh cool so when did you launch your first NFT?

Near the end of 2021. It was to promote a technology blog that I used to work on before going full NFT.

Oh cool how did it do?

It was never listed, I didn’t know how to do anything like that during that time. It was available via free airdrops to friends, family, and followers.

Ah so what was the first one you did that the community had access to?

It was the EthRain Starter Pack consisting of 3 random NFTs out of 7 possible. It was very popular and is what turned me into a WAX fanatic.

So your first proper drop was a pack that was pretty brave I am guessing the reaction was good?

Yep, I worked on making my first 7 NFTs which were animated 3D trading cards but only gave them out to friends and family until I learned about NeftyBlocks and how easy it was to create drops. I decided that creating a pack would be a cool way to push my boundaries.

Have you built up a community now?

I’ve now got just over 600 Twitter followers, and a couple hundred Instagram followers. The majority of my following tends to consist of users who operate solely on WAX, so that’s very cool.

How many NFTs have you created?

I’ve so far created 9 NFTs for my Professor WAX collection. Previous to that I’m guessing I minted around 20-30 templates in various other collections as I was learning how it all works.

What has been your favourite to create?

The test tube blends were pretty fun! I dropped the Empty Beaker at an unlimited supply for just 1 WAX, then anyone who held one had the opportunity to purchase the first 2 test tubes before they sold out, there were only 10 mints available in both colours. You could then blend them all together to fill your empty beaker with the colours from both of your test tubes.

How do you create each NFT?

I create the art in Procreate and a few other applications on my iPad, then transfer assets to my MacBook using the Adobe Suit such as Photoshop, Lightroom, PrimerPro, and AfterEffects. I also play around with Blender and Maxon 3D.

How long do they take to create?

It usually depends if I’ve done something similar or creating something totally new to me. I’ve spent 2 weeks straight just perfecting a single NFT. But most of the time I’m so addicted to the grind that I’ll work on a project for 12+ hours at a time taking it from start to finish in 1 day.

Have you done any collabs?

I’m actually currently working on a huge project with a United States Olympic wrestler. I’ve got a really big idea that I believe will change the way we interact with top athletes across the world. Other then that I’ve yet to collaborate with other WAX artist, but want to do as many as possible moving forward.

Who would be your dream WAX artist collab?

Oh snap, there is so many that I would love to work with! I’ve been a mega fan of Shnazzy ever since she came over to WAX, that one would be pretty cool. KryptoKumas & Waxy are a couple others.

Who is your favourite artist?

Probably Neanderthals, ancient cave art is very interesting to me.

Ha ha ha love it . Do you collect NFTs?

Lmao, I just studied them in one of my classes. But I’ve gotten a few NFTs that aren’t mine, some from other craters that are friends of mine, a Immersys beta card, and one of the first NASCAR NFTs.

What has been the best part of doing your project?

The best part so far has been realizing that I’ve finally found something I love doing and can make money doing it. I’ve met some people cool people so far as well.

What's been the hardest part?

When I first created a Twitter account I drafted 8 Tweets consisting of my first 7 NFTs and the Starter Pack. I tweeted all of them at the same time with links directing where to find them. They did super super well. But almost a hour later the Twitter Artificial intelligence algorithm flagged my account as spam and locked me out of my account completely. I instantly contacted Twitter support and received a message back saying that it was a mistake and they let me back in. Ever since then I’ve been shadowbaned on Twitter, limiting my views and reachability. Even when I made my new account “ProfessorWAX” my devices IP address was recognized and instantly flagged again. I’ve tried contacting Twitter support and the Better business bureau for months but have never been able to speak with a human or get my issue resolved. This has definitely been the hardest part of my journey but I’m don’t letting it holding me back from doing what I love to do.

What your family think of your project?

They find it interesting, but most of them don’t understand what NFTs are, I think I take it more seriously then some of them think.

What you like to do unwind?

Probably hard exercise, a nice way to let go and reset the body and mind.

Tell us something random about you?

I have Dyslexia, a learning disability, but I believe this helps me think outside the box and come up with cool ideas.

I believe that . Where is the best place to keep up with the project?

https://twitter.com/Professor_WAX

https://linktr.ee/ProfessorWAX

When is the next drop?

I’m not quite sure yet, most likely later this week.

Any chance of a competition for the readers?

That sounds really cool! How about if your reading this right now send a screenshot via Twitter DMs to @Professor_WAX and I’ll hook you up with an animated NFT of my logo!

Sweet love it.

Before we finish is there anything you would like to add?

I just want to say thank you so much for taking the time to interview me, and for everything you do for the WAX community! It was really fun taking with you today.

Thank you bro always a pleasure.
