A Filipino Tradition
Konnichiwa minna-san, how are you all today? I think I find my inspiration to write another article again for tonight. Actually I've been looking and thinking what and which article I should write for almost 3 days haha, I'm not good at writing but I do love writing and giving some inspirational message yet full of story. I want to discuss now some of the tradition that filipino have had since 16th-17th century, actually I am not that quite familiar to it since I was not able to see it since I was young but, I learnt it from books and from my school, I am not that "walang alam" to not know anything, tho. my parents forbid me to go to school but I did everything to go to without their knowledge hehe. Because if I want something I will make sure to have it even everyone is against to it.
Who's here are Filipinos? Month of April is so much to celebrate for, there is the "Day of Valor" that was on April 9, followed by "Maundy Thursday" today's happening April 14 then "Good Friday" April 15, followed by "Black Saturday" April 16 and "Easter Sunday" April 17.
Day of Valor (9th of April)
Who's here celebrating the day of Valor? Also called 'Bataan Day' Actually some of filipino might not know about it since some of us already forgot about the heroic things that happened from the past, it can be also a regular day now a days, but for me, I really love this day. 9th of April, because this shows how the Filipino kept fighting despite all the struggles they have had in life, no matter how far it gets, no matter how hard it might be, they did not stop until they reach their destination. Reading the story of the 76,000 Filipinos who force to walk 150km without even rest gives me a goosebumps. You see over 20,000 of Filipinos died in that death March, how can we not remember that happenings? I did love this day not because of too many people died but because the thought of the survival, the thought of struggling that no matter how hard to get there they will surely survive. This is the reason why we have now the parade by barangay's, showing the sacrifices and showing the integrity we had as a Filipino that keeps kicking to.
Maundy Thursday (13th of April)
Is it nows happening , who is not remembering this? This is the day where our Christ last supper with his apostles/disciples. Maundy Thursday reminds us that we should treat each other the same and equals no matter what. It demonstrate the humility and an entreaty towards each one another. Actually we all know that Jesus foretells his death, saying he will eat no more until the kingdom of God is fulfilled. It also marks an act of betrayal. "One of you will betray me," Jesus says and that's how Judas betray Jesus but he still forgave him and treat him equal, so why we humans can't do that? Is it because we are just a mere human?
Good Friday (15th of April)
Actually this good Friday is the Christian holiday, why I like Christian is not because we vow in the figurine, or santo niƱo but because we remembers and acts what happened to Jesus according to bible, although Iglesia ni Cristo did not know that but still some of them respect our beliefs and so called "panata". Good friday is to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Cavalry, the sacrifices of his for his people, and that's how much he love his people good or bad, he still forgive and do everything to save us.
Black Saturday (16th of April)
We Christian Filipinos believe that in black Saturday we are not allowed to do the swimming, it is a traditional taboos for us since it is the day of morning for Jesus our Christ. This day commemorates the day that Jesus Christ lay in his tomb prior to his resurrection on Easter Sunday. Actually on black Saturday we can be able to eat meat but still black Saturday is the reflection and thanksgiving for the sacrifice of our Christ (Jesus). Another way Christians commemorate, is by eating fish on Good Friday because we believe since Jesus died for our sins by sacrificing his flesh on Good Friday, followers should avoid consuming meat on this day. And so Christ followers awaits for his resurrection outside the tomb.
Easter Sunday (17th of April)
Easter Sunday, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian holiday that celebrates Jesus Christ rising from the dead. Jesus was resurrected three days after the date of his burial, which took place on a Friday afternoon, after he was crucified by the cavalry. The Easter holiday has developed a range of more modern traditions, such as decorating eggs, making nests and chicks out of craft materials and gifting each other with chocolate eggs <--- have anyone of you tried this new tradition? This is now how we celebrate the eater holiday.
Over all point of view: we Christian Filipinos has so much celebration that we have celebrating for. It is not just this month but as well as for another month but this month of April is one of my favorite month not because I am out of work for holidays but because remembering the events that happened from the past and how we can cope up for it and how'ld we reflect ourselves, he died for our sins. We shall not forget that one. That's all minna. Hope you enjoy your holiday today and don't forget the traditions we have had since 16th-17th centuries. We bond to it and we will make it till the end hehe. Gambatte :)
