Abstinence
Abstinence is avoiding indulgence in particular behaviors, objects, or substances. It is used as a term in behavioral psychology to describe human behavior which is suppressed or prevented from occurring by the conscious and unconscious mind.
Abstinence can have prescriptive and descriptive value.
Abstinence is the act of voluntarily refraining from indulging a desire, participating in an activity or performing an action which may give rise to feelings of pleasure.
In our quest to be great, we put brakes on certain things that can hold us back from our goals. And we all should.
Let us then abstain from every form of temptation, so that when the world is ready for action again, we are ready for it.
Abstain from things that can hold you back and things that only have temporary gratification.
Learn to say no and stand your ground; don't just be a yes-man who agrees with everything people say. Learn to say no in a way that shows you mean business and are not afraid to speak your mind.
It is commonly practiced in religious or spiritual traditions, often within a monastic setting, as a sign of devotion and/or as a symbol of asceticism.
For instance, it is commonly practiced by adherents to religions with a strong emphasis on morality. Abstinence is also practiced by people who have a high degree of personal autonomy to make choices about their own lives, such as teenagers and unmarried adults.
Abstinence from sex
Abstinence is the only 100% effective birth control method (yes, including your mom's favorite condoms). This means that as long as you're abstinent, you will never get pregnant. If a woman and a man do not have sex, she cannot get pregnant. It's that simple.
Abstinence is a big word. Maybe you've seen people use it but don't really know what it means? It is the act of refraining from having sex, even when you feel like it or want to.
When you're abstinent you can still have fun and do all of the same things that you normally do (although maybe...less of it). Being abstinent isn't just about avoiding sex, it's about focusing on your life and making smart choices.
Abstinence is not a method of birth control. Abstinence is practiced before marriage, during pregnancy, while breastfeeding, or any other time that having sex could result in pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases.
Fact or Myth?
It's a Fact!
Teens who are sexually active are more likely than those who are abstinent to have unsafe sex, be exposed to sexually transmitted diseases and experience pregnancy. Teens who abstain from sexual activity have improved emotional health and well-being. They are more likely to have higher self esteem and feel better about themselves.
In addition, abstinence helps teens to develop healthy attitudes about sexuality and increases their likelihood of avoiding risky sexual behavior when they become sexually active.
Truth is you have less chance of getting pregnant if you don't have sex than if you do have sex.

Abstinence from Drugs, Smoking, fraud and other vices & sins.
The debate surrounding abstinence is an interesting one. It's not just about sex. It is also about an entire mindset towards living a healthy life.
It's easy to look at the concept of abstinence through the lens of sex and sexuality and think that it is only applicable to a certain set of people, who are being shunned for their choices.
Yes, it also means no sex. But it also means that you do not take part in drugs or other intoxicants, gambling and other vices as well.
When we talk of abstinence, it is not only about sex. One can abstain from all kinds of vices and sins too. From smoking to drinking, from drugs to junk food and from fraud to greed, it is possible to abstain from all those things. But if one decides to do that, then we have to first identify what it is that we are going to abstain from.
The diseases which plague our society have many roots but one common ground, and that is a lack of self-control. The reason for this lack of control is addiction.
And therefore, the biggest problem plaguing us is not that of sex or drugs, but it is the problem of addiction. Addiction or lack of self-control can be overcome by learning self-control.
Lesson: We all know Abstinence is not as easy as it seems, but please abstain from all vices and sins, either premarital sex, drugs, gambling, and other ungodly things.
