What is it about Bitcoin Cash that makes us fight so much? Or better yet, why do we keep fighting? Why not just give in to our opponents, or give up on the project altogether, and simply walk away?
I'm guessing it's because those of us still fighting over the future of BCH all believe in the mission. We believe Bitcoin Cash is a technology that has the ability to change the course of humanity. We believe BCH will lead to new forms of interaction, to new opportunities and industries that we have yet to even imagine. To me this project represents a chance for real change, and possibly connect us on a global scale in ways that were never before possible.
I obviously can't see the future, and I have no idea what's going to happen, but I do know that the stakes we are playing for are as high as it gets. And that's why we need to remember that BCH isn't just competing with other cryptocurrencies. We are competing with national governments, and banks, and mega corporations like Facebook and Visa, because we are all in a race to see who can offer the best solution and become the money of the future.
They say he who controls the money, controls the world. Well for the first time in history, we now have the ability to create money that can't be controlled by anyone.
Most people don't realize how profound this is. They don't see the significance of what it means to be able to mint money that is both inflation-proof and the greatest medium of exchange the world has ever seen. By combining economics with computer science, now we can have the best of both worlds.
Because of these features, BCH opens the door to separate money from the state. It can take away power from governments, decrease corruption, and give every human on the planet a chance to participate in the global economy.
As Roger always says, it's all about bringing more economic freedom to the world.
I know the idea of economic freedom is a grand one that only offers a big picture view of what BCH hopes to make possible.
So how about what can Bitcoin Cash do today?
Bitcoin Cash gives us the ability to privately send any amount of money, to anyone, anywhere in the world, instantly, and basically for free.
That is something you can't do that with Venmo, or Paypal, or with a credit card. You can with Bitcoin Cash. Because with BCH you control your money. You no longer have to rely on a third party to process your transactions, or to keep it safe on your behalf. Your Bitcoin Cash can't be seized by the government the same way the funds in your bank account can. It's like having a secret pile of money only better because it's digital. This allows you to store your money on your own cold storage device, or on a piece of paper, or by memorizing some words and storing them in your head. Think about what that means for someone who is a refugee, or anyone trying to quickly leave a bad situation.
Despite our differences, I truly believe that we all share the same mission. Someone I was talking to said it best the other day. He said that when he looks down the list of coins out there, BCH is by far the leading candidate for world money.
I know we all feel the same way. It's why we fight, because we know how important this is and how high the stakes are.
I'm going to end this article with a quote from an interview I did of Amaury back in July. I basically asked him, "Why are you still working on Bitcoin Cash?" As the lead developer of Bitcoin ABC, I was curious what his answer would be, and this is what he wrote back:
I’m still here because I believe in the mission. The ability for two parties to transact without a 3rd party being involved - in other words, cash - is extremely important for economic freedom. Due to the economics calculation problem, economic freedom is also paramount for humans to flourish.
Hard money that is also a good medium of exchange is also paramount. The history of civilization is an endless cycle of hard money such as gold being replaced by fiat money, because it is not a good medium of exchange at scale. As a civilization grows, scaling its economy is also paramount, and so moving to fiat is unavoidable. This always ends up several decades later in a hyperinflation episode that takes the civilization with it.
With Bitcoin Cash, we have an opportunity to fix both.
You say this and yet you support the IFP and abc?
