10 scariest prisons in the world
A prison is a terrible place in itself for every person. However, there are at least 10 of the most terrible prisons in the world with inhuman conditions of detention and a cruel attitude towards prisoners. Being in such an institution is a real game of survival, in which prisoners rarely win. For the title of the most Terrible place of deprivation of liberty, 10 "zones of no return" from different parts of the globe are fighting. Each of them has its own traditions and long history.
1. Rwanda, Gitarama
It is not for nothing that this prison bears the title of the most terrible prison in the world. This correctional institution, designed for 700 people, already contains more than 8,000 prisoners within its walls. The cells are cells without a roof, because of the cramped conditions, most of the prisoners spend time standing up both at night and during the day, which leads to leg diseases, infection due to unsanitary conditions, and even to amputation of limbs. In addition, the inhabitants of Gitarama are dying from numerous viruses and infections, however, the guards are in no hurry to clean up their bodies! And those who managed to survive tell about the utter arbitrariness on the part of the prison administration, frequent brutal murders.
2. North Korea, Camp 22 (Hereyong)
Hereyong is completely isolated from the outside world. Innocent people often find themselves in this creepy political prison camp: according to Korean law, all family members of a dissident up to the third generation, including women and children, must serve their sentences! In total, more than 50,000 people languish in the dungeons, daily subjected to forced labor, terrible torture and monstrous medical experiments. True, it is possible that many data about the horrors of the Korean camps are still exaggerated for propaganda purposes.
3. China, Masanjia Labor Camp
Another correctional facility that resembles an earthly branch of hell is Masanjia in China. Everything that can only be dreamed of in a nightmare is concentrated in one place: slave labor, cruel torture and unbearable conditions of detention. Those who practice Falun Gong are serving their sentences here - a special practice of qigong, which eventually turned into an anti-communist political movement (by the way, Falun Gong is also prohibited in the Russian Federation).
4. Turkey, Diyarbakir
Since 1980, the country's most dangerous criminals have been kept in this prison, which has made the correctional facility one of the worst in the world. Bullying by sadistic guards, violence, physical and mental torture is a common thing in Diyarbakir. In overcrowded blocks, unsanitary conditions, dirt, dampness reign, which leads to outbreaks of dangerous diseases and death.
The main motto of the colony is sadistic cruelty. It is no wonder that prisoners often cannot endure this earthly hell: they go on hunger strikes, commit suicide and even public self-immolation!
5. Venezuela, La Sabaneta
Once upon a time, Hugo Chavez aptly called La Sabaneta ... "the gate to the fifth circle of hell." Because inhuman cruelty, complete unsanitary conditions and “overpopulation” are the main features of the colony. Instead of the prescribed 15,000 people, there are almost 25,000 prisoners who are not even taken out for walks! In addition, the prisoners do not have the opportunity to wash themselves, which leads to frequent epidemics of cholera and other contagious diseases. The situation is aggravated by the presence of wealthier lawbreakers who have the opportunity to live in slightly more comfortable conditions - this leads to constant hostility and bloodshed. So, in 1994, during the next conflict, more than 100 people died.
6. France, La Sante
Caught in Santa waiting for very terrible conditions. First of all, carriers of dangerous diseases - rats, parasitic insects, a complete lack of sanitary and hygienic conditions. If I add to this the cruelty and torture of the authorities, the arbitrariness and violence on the part of the guards. Sante is not in vain the leader in the number of suicides committed within its walls: for example, in 2002 more than 120 prisoners committed suicide. By the way, the name of this creepy place looks like a cruel joke: in French it means... "health"!
7. Thailand, Bang Kwang
Few people know that one of the most popular countries for tourists in Southeast Asia is famous for its intransigent legislation in the field of drug trafficking. In Bang Kwang Prison, the indigenous people of the country are mainly serving their sentences for possession and sale of drugs. Sophisticated torture, adult violence and the indescribable cruelty of the guards are the norm, and handcuffs are worn not only on the hands, but also on the legs! From Bang Kwang, few people manage to get out alive: according to statistics, most of the prisoners die from outbreaks of malaria and tuberculosis.
8. USA, San Quentin
In the entire history of gloomy dungeons, the most terrible types of death penalty were practiced here: electric chair, lethal injection of poison, execution, gas chamber. This American casemate is the world leader in the number of executed death sentences. In addition, cruel morals reign in San Quentin, and after more than 100 people suffered from the arbitrariness of the authorities in 2006, the conditions of detention here were recognized as deadly.
9. Syria, military prison Tadmor
Tadmor is a place of serving sentences for political criminals. At the beginning of the twentieth century, terrible atrocities were happening in the dungeons: in connection with the uprising of Islamist groups in Syria, it was ordered to destroy all local prisoners. According to official figures, over 1,000 people were brutally murdered in just two weeks, according to unofficial figures, twice as many. After the authorities were charged in 2001 with the use of sophisticated torture and special cruelty, the casemate was closed, but since 2011 the zone has reopened the doors for especially dangerous criminals: extremists and terrorists. Fortunately, in 2015 the prison was destroyed.
10. Russia, Vladimirsky Central
This most terrible prison in Russia was originally intended for the country's most dangerous criminals. Since 1783, in the entire history of the institution, there has not been a single successful escape from there. Starting from 1906, even under the tsar, political prisoners were sent to this prison, among them, for example, was Mikhail Frunze. Since 1921, the prison has become a place of detention for anti-Soviet elements - Trotskyists, Socialist-Revolutionaries and others.
In 1948, Vladimirsky Central entered the system of special-purpose prisons of the USSR Ministry of State Security. By the way, for the most part, it was not the song of Mikhail Krug, but the prisoners of the Soviet period that glorified this prison. Among the most famous residents of the Vladimir Central there were many celebrities - from the singer Lidia Ruslanova to the son of the leader of the peoples Joseph Stalin - Vasily, who sat there from 1953 to 1961.
After 1978, political prisoners were no longer sent to the Vladimir Prison. And now it contains criminals with long and life sentences. True, they are treated much more humanely than in previous centuries.
This whole top of the most terrible prisons really resembles hell on Earth. However, it is important to know that such places exist, it helps to be more attentive to the laws of different states of the world. After all, everyone can stumble, and not everyone manages to get out of these dungeons.
Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) there are very few photographs from these prisons; one can only be content with satellite images of the barracks. Images available on internet are not Official and fabricated
