In the late **1930s**, the MacDonald family moved from Manchester to California. Brothers Maurice and Richard were inspired by the proximity of Hollywood. They, like many others, were pulled by star film studios. But a career on the big screen did not work out. They quickly got tired of working as laborers on the set, and they became disillusioned with the Hollywood radiance.
Meanwhile, their father, Patrick McDonald, opened a small restaurant, Airdome, on the road leading from the airport to San Bernardino, California. The younger McDonalds, who had abandoned the dream factories, began to help in the family business. Gradually, they realized that passing drivers most respect food that can be eaten right in the car, and hamburgers were ideal for this. This simple dish was invented by German emigrants, who came up with the idea to put not a sausage, but a cutlet in a bun, and even add vegetables to it. Do you still believe in Witches?
Many people believe that there are sorcerers and sorceresses who use supernatural powers to harm other people.
Belief in ***witchcraft*** is a very ancient phenomenon. Perhaps not much younger than humanity itself. There are speculations that some of the cave paintings could be witch signs applied to scare away spirits.
If we talk about historical sources, then we find the first mention of witchcraft in the ***Code of Hammurabi (1750s BC)***. According to him, the death penalty was imposed for witchcraft that is, that divination is possible, the population does not doubt at all.
In the middle of the 5th century BC, the punishment for witchcraft was enshrined in the Roman Laws of the Twelve Tables, and from there it passed into classical Roman law. Early Christian theologians called witches a pagan superstition, and for some time the Church did not punish such acts. Even if the "fact" of witchcraft was mentioned in the trial, the judges were only interested in whether it caused any material damage. Sometimes early medieval law codes did not even know the punishment for witchcraft, but instead imposed punishment for accusations of it. Then things slowly started to change.
In the XIII century, bonfires blazed in the south of France: Catholics burned the Albigensians of Provence. Approximately the same dealt with the Waldensians in the Western Alpine lands. What at first looked like a fight against heresy, at some point became a witch hunt: the accusation of witchcraft did not require the same evidence as the accusation of heresy.
During the Renaissance, the process accelerated: witches were burned in Europe especially intensively just in the 15th-16th centuries. The last major excess of this kind is considered to be the process in the New England city of Salem (end of the 17th century), as a result of which 20 people were executed as witches and sorcerers, almost 200 went to prison.
***What does this have to do with our time?*** The most direct. A paper has been published in the journal PLOS One that summarizes and analyzes data sets collected in 2008-2017 by the Pew Research Center (USA). Employees of the organization interviewed 140,000 people from 95 countries on five continents.
People were asked questions related to their belief in magic, such as ***"Do you believe in the evil eye***, or that certain people can cast curses or spells that cause bad things to happen to someone?"
Based on the proportion of such people in the Pew Research Center sample, estimate that at least one billion people worldwide believe in witchcraft. Women, city dwellers and younger people are more likely to believe in supernatural powers. However, a higher level of education and living in a small household tended to be accompanied by less belief in witchcraft - although there were exceptions. Such beliefs were found in people from different educational and socio-economic circles.
The level of adherents of magic varies greatly by country. For example, more than nine out of ten Tunisians believe in it. But in Sweden, less than one in ten such gullible citizens. According to these data, it can be assumed that the matter is in the greater financial well being of the inhabitants of Scandinavia.
But it turned out that this was not the case. No, there is financial well being, only belief in witches does not directly depend on it. If we take a sample of a single country, then people with a “very good” economic situation there were only six to seven percent less likely to believe in witchcraft than their poorest fellow citizens.
Religious people are more likely to believe in black magic than atheists. This is rather strange, since in Western Christianity the fundamental church dogmas (as well as before the witch hunt) directly say: these are all pagan prejudices, magic does not exist. The position of the Orthodox Church is similar.
I personally believe that key role in whether people believe in witchcraft or not is not the financial situation, not the level of education, and not even the attitude to religion. These factors affect, but not much. The main thing, in their opinion, is the country in which a person lives.

Once, being in nature, I observed an amazing sight:
Waking up early in the morning, I see that several dozen ants got into my five liter transparent tank of water.
At first they floundered apart, but then gradually began to gather in a bunch.
Seeing that the ants climb on top of each other and, as it seemed to me, drown their own in order to survive, I gave up the idea of helping them.
Imagine my surprise when two hours later I saw the ants alive. They created a small floating living island, nestled on top of each other in the form of a pyramid.
I was interested in the vitality of these insects, and I began to observe them.
Those that were below, of course, were in the water, but until a certain time. They were voluntarily replaced by ants from the top row.
They descended into the water and only after that, tired of holding their relatives, the insects crawled out onto this living island to rest, in order to change their friends again later.
Moreover, none of them tried to climb to the top faster, on the contrary, they hurried down into the water, where it was most difficult.
I was amazed by their heroic self sacrifice and mutual assistance, and therefore I decided to help them faster. I managed to find a spoon that easily entered the neck of the vessel.
When the ants saw salvation, they climbed out one by one on land, but one, still exhausted, could not cling to the edge of the spoon and remained floundering in the water.
Noticing this, the last ant, closing the column, returned back.
I seemed to hear that he was calling him and begging:

Each insect knew what it had to do. And, of course, I regretted not helping the ants from the very beginning. They made me ashamed by their behavior.
And the last feeling that I experienced at that time was great annoyance. Thoughts about human things came to me in a continuous stream - indifference, disagreement and hostility, etc.
I wanted to shout to the whole world:

Bloody Terror Attack on ISTIKLAL STREET (Istanbul) 13.11.2022
The Turkish metropolis of ***Istanbul*** was shaken by a bloody terrorist attack, for the first time in several years. There is no such disease as OLD AGE
What we do today will certainly bear fruit tomorrow. But it is not customary to think about old age in advance. Because it's almost pointless.
Firstly, it is not known whether you will live to see noble gray hair.

I'm an orphan teenager, was very poor. To earn bread and for education, I carried various small goods from house to house.
One day I didn't have a cent left in my pocket. Tormented by hunger, I decided to go to the nearest house and ask for food. I was embarrassed, but when I approached the house, I was seized by a sense of determination: whether they will refuse or not. I was once at a concert with my friends in my city. The crowd was but not too much - a thousand or one and a half people. If your row fell into this wave (and this is exactly what happened to us), then you will not stay on your feet. You start to fall and end up on the ground. It is difficult to get up yourself, because people are also falling nearby and we are all far from a state of balance.
At that moment, a young guy just grabbed me by the shoulders from the back row and lifted me (for which I am still grateful to him). He literally "pulled" me out of this stream and after his help I was able to get back on my feet. The boys and I then immediately left there and went to the far rows, where the crowds were smaller and there were gaps between people for walking. This negative experience became my trigger for life, and since then I have not gone to a single concert or event where there are crowds of people.
A crowd of people is an uncontrollable element, like a storm or a hurricane. You can't resist! It is better not to get into such stories at all. Therefore, the First and Main rule from me is not to go anywhere where there are crowds of people at all!
The Internet contains rules for those who still take the risk. But I repeat, it will be extremely difficult to follow them if you are covered by a wave or crushed by a crowd in their ranks. And not the fact that you can get out of it all on your own.
Therefore, I will not retell all the rules to you, look for them yourself. Type in the search engine "**Rules of behavior in the crowd**" remember them if you are still going on such an "adventure 🤯".
Not a single concert or event is worth leaving after it crippled 🥴, lost, or worse.
By the way, it was also lost with me. And also on some of the holidays. I went with my friends, they have all my things, and after the disco we "lost" each other. It was believed that it was at this time that all living nature fell into a dream, the earth went to rest, in which it would remain until the first spring thaw woke it up.
