Holiday: The Awaited Time
The most anticipated time during school period, for me, is the holiday. I love holidays. It is a period of rest and it lasts but a few days or weeks, which I don't like. During holidays, you get to rest well, eat well, visit places you ought to visit and travel around the world (if you so wish).
A holiday can also be a day declared free from work by the Federal or State government. There was this thread I saw on Twitter sometime ago. You are to mention your birth month without mentioning your birth month. It's very simple. Just tell us what makes your birth month unique. For instance, the month when Nigeria gained independence. It's October.
Well, let me get to what I am driving at. May is a month of months. A month of break with not less than two public holidays in Nigeria. We have Workers day on the 1st of May, Children's day on the 27th of the same month and Democracy day on the 29th. Although, Democracy day has been moved to June 3rd.
Looking back to when I was in primary school and then secondary school, I kind of liked the month of May because of the public holidays that come with it. And that is because I get to watch the television more than I do on regular days.
Most times, the holiday is taken as a leisure period. A time to unwind, to breathe, here we have more time to ourselves. But it is not all about that. Over the years, I have come to learn new things during the holidays, so can you. Learning new things depends on your interest, your environment and the resources available to you.
So what can you do?
Learn a skill: Yes, you! You can learn a skill. My friend learned crocheting during a holiday and now she makes sweaters, caps, bags, hairbands with it. Not only that, she makes money from it. Again, she developed interest in tailoring and went to acquire the necessary skill and training required to matter it. She loves sewing now. All this she gained during the holiday. Of course, she watched movies and took time out to rest but decided not to lazy around. Dear you, learn a skill today. It helps. It will most especially serve as a source of income. Learning a skill helps to cut down expenses. What do I mean by this? You wouldn't want to pay for what you know how to do right? Except you are not chanced to do it.
Read books: Books helps you to see through the mind of the author, through great minds. You would agree with me that most articles you write has been thought upon in your mind before you choose to post or publish it. Dedicate time to read books. If it's an hour daily that works for you, it's fine. The more you know, the more you realise what you don't know and the more you realise what you don't know, the more you want to know.
Exercise: You might have noticed that you tend to add more weight during the holidays which is probably because you feed more or because you don't exert your energy on anything serious. Take a walk, jog, run; do all you can to keep fit.
Spend time with your family: There should be a difference between when you are working and when you are on break. Spend quality time with your family especially during holidays. Let them enjoy you, your presence for only them can they miss you in your absence.
Grow in fellowship with God: God loves us so so much that he sent his only begotten son to die for and redeem us from eternal damnation. Pray, worship, read and study your Bible that you may know Him more and more.
Connect with friends: Don't abandon your friends; check up on them. Have hangouts, video calls, be a listening ear, message and call them and visit them if you can.
Well, that will be all for today. I hope you enjoyed reading this? Thank you and good day 😊.
I also love holidays too and aside that, it's an opportunity to learn something and be productive. It's that moment when you have to develop yourself personally and not just sitting idle without doing anything.
