They're Gone Country Hello, wonderful friends. Good evening or good morning to each and every one of you. Today was a chill day for me and my daughter. I did a few errands in the morning and at around noon, we went straight to the farm. The first stop was at my mom's and the next was at my friends' house. I just had to drop something for them both. I also had to visit my dog because left her at mom's. Mom is living alone so... So, let's take a Sunday trike drive-ride in the countryside with me. Yeah? I thought some would like to see some greens and nature colors. Imagine hearing the leaves blowing in the wind as we travel. Let's go! The first photo was taken in my mom's yard. These are begonias.

If you guys live in a chilly climate without any frosts, you'll find them begonias all year long. Here in the Philippines, they are best grown up in the mountains like Baguio City. They also grow here in the lowlands, but just don't expose them to extreme heat. Isn't she pretty in peach? That was my first capture right after we got off from the trike (3-wheel vehicle in the Philippines). Then, we immediately headed off to mom's kitchen and had our late lunch. It was past 2pm when we got there. We took a rest for a few minutes, while mom went to the backyard and harvest some avocados and bananas for us to bring home.

The joy of living in the countryside - fresh veggies and fruits right straight to your dining. You'll be encircled by miles of plant life, rather than huge workplaces in the city. Less populated. Less polluted. Slow-paced life. Clean air. More relaxed community. More peaceful environment. The peaceful surroundings of nature in the country offer opportunities for thought and mental development as well. Now, let's go back in the trike and travel far east to my friends' house. Here's what you see just after you enter the gate. Miracle fruits! Huge, aren't they?

I was amazed when I saw these. They look like hanging balloons on a tree. So, I had to take several shots before saying hi to my friend lol. The trees produce round fruits as big as volleyball. These huge miracle fruits require almost a half year to age. They also call this fruit "Calabash". The taste of the fruit is not that very pleasant, so some use this as an ornamental plant instead just like what my friend did to her front yard. A few minutes later after taking photos of these miracle fruits, my friend's mom just got home from the farm and brought home newly harvest pineapples and bamboo shoots. She gave me a piece of each. Yay!

By the way, we eat bamboo shoots (young bamboo) here in the Philippines especially for us living in the countryside. There are many types of bamboo though, which are all possibly edible. Some varieties produce inadequate amounts of little, intense, and kinda hard shoots, which should be cooked for quite a while to turn out to be edible. You can cook adobo, salad, dinengdeng and many others. Bamboo shoots have a flavor that is fairly like water chestnuts with an incredibly gentle flavor. Kinda woody and has a touch of nutty flavor. It's good! **They also have a Rambutan tree.** Tadaaa!

My friend told me, they just harvested the ripe ones a few hours before we visited them. They finished them all too. I missed that! For Those who are not familiar with rambutan, the texture is similar to a blend between a grape and a pear or perhaps a cherry. It is delicate and simple to eat. Some of the time, a touch of the skin tumbles off the seed, and it has a woody taste too. They do taste like lychee. Sweet, juicy, and yummy. They have more trees and other veggies in their backyard, but we were in hurry to go home because it started pouring. I think we have a typhoon coming. So yeah, that summed up my Saturday.
