We learned from our science teacher that Thomas Edison was the one who invented the light bulb. Well I guess no one would disagree with that.
However he was only famous when he patented the first commercial light build in 1879. But before the public had known about this revolutionary technology, there were early scientists and inventors who were developing this device. Few of them are Alessandro Volta, Humphry Day and Warren de la Rue.
Enough of science and history before this article would look like a lesson plan (laughs). But seriously this blog post is about the thing that lights our home. Most of us know that this thing is just there to provide light but are not aware of its energy consumption.
In one of my previous posts I mentioned the differences between an incandescent bulb and a LED light bulb. And that LED lights are energy efficient that the traditional incandescent bulb.
Today I am going to tell you why you should replace your incandescent bulb or CFL light with LED lights. There is a lot of this information posted over the internet so I will just share with you my own experience about the differences.
First thing first you should know that electricity is measured in Watts and Kilowatts. Watt is the unit of power which derived from the Scottish Inventor James Watt.
The higher the wattage of a home device, the higher its energy consumption, thus higher electricity bill.
With regards to the incandescent bulb, the higher the wattage, the brighter light it shines but then again it will consume a higher amount of energy. Why is it said so? Because it has a filament. The filament is highly conductive wire (tungsten wire) and then enclosed in a vacuum tube, the bulb as for this case, and made to glow a light by electric current.
Trivia: If you accidentally get electrocuted, it is not the voltage that will kill you. The current does. Even if you touch a 220 volts open wire with zero or very low current passing through it. You will not even get shocked.
On the other hand, we have the LED light today that has been commercially used for home and business establishments as lighting fixtures.
Back in the past, LEDs were commonly used only in electronic and electrical devices as an indicator. Red and green are the most common colors of LED in such devices. By the way LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It is a solid state device because it is a type of diode. If you would like to learn about electronics just do your own research on the internet.
I will not enumerate all about diodes here. I know you are kind of lost now with the terminologies but don't worry, you will surely know about the advantages of using an LED light rather than a traditional light bulb.
I mentioned earlier that a bulb with a higher wattage of power gives brighter light. A 30W incandescent bulb can give enough light to a room but it is actually a little dimmer. On the contrary a 7W LED light can provide sufficient white light in an ordinary living room. You will see the differences if you try it yourself. As I have said a while ago, the higher the wattage of a home device the higher the electricity bill.
What is it with LED lights that make them energy efficient? It does not use filament contrary to the traditional light bulbs. It is a semiconductor device that emits light when a current passes through it. The semiconductor die acts as the material that produces light when a current flows through.
Aside from being energy efficient, LED light also is durable because it doesn't just easily break compared to incandescent bulbs that use glass, thus it has a lifespan of six times more than the traditional bulbs. Traditional light bulbs are also hazardous to health and prone to physical injuries.
LED light bulbs are also cheaper so it will save you money.
Today, light bulb manufacturers are producing more LED bulbs replacing the traditional ones.
It is always best to be wiser when it comes to home living. I mean these days we should be wise enough to decide what is best for our household. With the rise of the pandemic and still occurring, the economy fell down and everything was affected.
People can’t attend to their necessities because their income was affected. Some learned to purchase cheap but good products because their budget was cut short.
We must understand that even without a crisis we should learn to be wise. Not because we have much to spend, we should not care about what is important and what is not.
Remember that it is better to know exactly what we need than what we want.
Thanks for reading. Ciao!

Wow! Thanks for this. Di ko alam to pero LED light gamit ko sa kwarto ko. Hehehe! Bili lang ng bili kahit walang alam
