Ever tried to give some BCH away to restaurant staff or Uber drivers only to find the altruistic onboarding process isn't as easy as it might be? The solution is here. It is BitcoinBileto.
BitcoinBileto are business card sized, professionally printed, scratchoff cards which a person can purchase and load with BCH. They are designed so that they can be loaded with BCH by the person who buys them in order to give them out for the purpose of onboarding other people. They can be loaded with as much or as little BCH as the purchaser chooses. Although the average funded on each card may only be a few dollars, a batch of bileto can be loaded such that a couple of the cards have a much higher amount. This aspect gives the crypto naive recipient the incentive to go ahead, download a wallet and scan the QR code in case he or she is the person who 'wins big'.
BitcoinBileto enables bitcoin cash enthusiasts to cheaply and easily onboard people they meet in everyday life. Prior to BitcoinBileto, the primary option was paper wallets of specific value printed on regular paper and cut.
When a customer purchases a stack of bileto from BitcoinBileto, he or she will receive a stack of preprinted bileto along with a USB drive of the private keys. The customer can then download Electron Cash and install the BitcoinBileto plugin to fund the cards. Because we are only selling empty private keys and a USB with those private keys, we are not money transmitters.
The Bitcoin Cash community remains without a widespread local bitcoin cash economy. Queensland has done admirable work yet, no doubt, the vast majority of people there still use fiat for most daily transactions. For much of the history of bitcoin people have talked about bitcoin’s ability to enable the unbanked to not need banks. However, this is limited by the fact that for poorer people in the developing world, for whom bitcoin offers perhaps the most tremendous benefits, the ability to acquire bitcoin remains limited.
By the time that they knew about mining, it was no longer possible to mine with a CPU. Chances to earn bitcoin online require specialized skills and a computer that many do not have. Remittances in bitcoin, even if straightforward for the senders to exchange fiat for bitcoin, remain rare, in part, because the ability for the receivers to turn bitcoin into utility via exchange for goods and services isn’t there yet. That is, no one uses bitcoin because it is not that widely used and it is not that widely used because no one uses it. This is an additional problem BitcoinBileto was designed to solve. Its goal is to quickly onboard a significant number of users in a constrained local area such that a critical number of people both have bitcoin and want to receive more bitcoin.
Legal and regulatory matters are entirely up to the end user. While we have designed the product with gifts and tips in mind, there are obviously many other ways in which it could be used. Do you want to run a local bitcoin lottery selling tickets? If you can manage the government regulations in your area, go for it. We are willing to ship to everyone in the world, but shipping from the US to your country may be prohibitive. Not a problem, use the plugin to create your own bileto and have a printer in your country print them.
Some may be concerned about the security of private keys you did not generate yourself, particularly as bitcoin was designed to remove trusted third parties from the money equation. We are not seeking to be a trusted third party. Once we have printed a stack of BitcoinBileto and loaded the USB drive with the private keys, we delete all record of those keys.
Although our printing process has reasonable security, all security is relative. In our testing of the generation and printing process, we have found no evidence of security breaches. Nevertheless, we would recommend against using bileto as any kind of long term storage device for bitcoin. The purpose of the product to to give away small amounts to incentivize crypto naive humans to download a wallet to discover how easy bitcoin is to use.
A final element of utility which BitcoinBileto offers is the capacity to 'sweep.' It works as follows. We delete the private keys after we produce the BitcoinBileto and load the USB drive. The purchaser uses the USB drive to load the cards. The purchaser could then delete the private keys meaning that the bitcoin would now only be accessible by scratching off each QR card on each card. The risk there though is that some recipients of BitcoinBileto throw the card out and the value on it is lost forever. By sweeping, BitcoinBileto can, in effect, have an expiry date after which the unclaimed value on them is recouped.
