Welcome to burlesque...

The definition of a good musical is simple: there has to be a lot of singing, a lot of dancing, less dialogue, and the plot should generally be relegated to the background. The main singer's appearance, colors (the bright ones should appear most often) and famous music stars in the cast also have a very good influence on the reception. This is why "Burleska" is a good musical. Starring two legends of pop music. The first one came out in the late '90s and has the best vocals of all the stereotypical "blonde pop stars", but she's just making her debut as an actress. The second one was at the top in the 1960s, and has returned to the top regularly, but is also an established actress with an Oscar under her belt. The first is Christina Aguilera and the second is Cher.

The plot of "Burleska" is extremely patterned, simple and predictable. A village girl named Ali (played by Aguilera) wants to make a career, to do this she travels to Los Angeles, where she gets a job as a waitress at a burlesque club. When she shows the owner, Tess (played by Cher) on stage, she is hired as a dancer, and when she presents her amazing voice, everyone's jaws drop, and Tess decides to change the way she performs at the club and allows Ali to sing live. Of course, there is a love thread between Ali and a certain Jack (Cam Gigandet), we also have a jealous dancer (Kristen Bell) and Tess's financial problems, as a result of which she may lose the only thing she really has - a burlesque club. The endings of all these threads are easy to guess.

Is the fact that "Burlesque" is so template bad? No! Antina's film can make us laugh at times, but it is not comedy; it may force tears, but it is not a drama. It is a musical and, as I wrote before, it has all the features of a good music movie. The film is also in some ways a positive turning point in the careers of major pop stars. Aguilera makes her debut as an actress (and is doing very well, for which she deserves congratulations; Britney Spears failed in "Crossroads" and, fortunately, she still didn't try it, but Madonna played her entire career and did so well only in " Evita ", so Christina deserves applause all the more), and she has already flirted with soul-blues music (which she undertakes in" Burleska ") on the album" Back to Basics ", while her last album," Bionic ", which is the opposite of its predecessor, met negative reception, so the soundtrack to this movie is a very good turnaround in her career. Cher has not appeared on the big screens since 1999, and she plans to release her next album in 2011, so "Burleska" is certainly a very good announcement of her musical comeback (this time in studio, not with the greatest hits number album ... probably she she doesn't even know which one).

Antina's film is not only Christina and Cher. It is also Cam Gigandet, who will appeal to many girls (watch out, ladies - in one of the scenes you will see him completely naked!) And who plays Jack, the bartender at the club and Ali's roommate, with whom he ends up in bed, of course causing the same troubles. It is also Eric Dane, who is unsuccessfully trying to buy Tess and hitting on Ali, and also presents us with an enviable apartment. It is also Peter Gallagher playing the role of the co-owner of the club and ex-husband of Tess, concealing his homosexuality. It's also Kristen Bell, who plays Nikki, the main star, who gets "bitten" by Ali, making her jealous, and also extremely selfish and undisciplined, and runs into a sharp conflict with Tess.

If someone goes to the cinema to see "Burleska" primarily to see and hear their idols, Aguilera and Cher, you should definitely read the soundtrack beforehand. And if someone doesn't do it sooner, they can do it after the screening. There are really many gems on the soundtrack. And although eight out of ten songs are performed by Christina, who has powerful vocals and thanks to which we will fall into admiration many times, the queen of the album is Cher. Her ballad "You Haven't Seen the Last of Me" (by the way, written by the author of one of the biggest hits of the 60-year-old, "If I Could Turn Back Time", or Diane Warren) touches the heart, also while watching the film, when Cher sings it under the pressure of his problems, and it is she, not any of Aguilera's songs, that was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Song from the Movie (it's a pity the Academy hasn't even awarded an Oscar nomination, but the Glob itself is better than nothing).

One could complain that it is too kitschy, that the music is above the plot, that it is too template ... But in the musical category it is a very good movie. I do not hide that men may not like it (although gays should be pleased - after all, Cher and Aguilera are gay icons, and somewhere beyond them we will see a naked handsome man and two male partners in the film) and the film is addressed mainly to the fair sex, but after all, this is also a feature of musicals. I also recommend "Burleska" to music lovers who listen to the main actresses, but also to those who are not interested in pop sounds, because styles such as soul or R&B dominate the soundtrack. In addition to music, we will see love plots, a few handsome gentlemen and pretty ladies, as well as beautiful views of the capital of show business and pop culture, the so-called L.A. And Cher, who looks three decades younger than she really is (and she is, beware ... 65!).

Burlesque is an artistic performance that combines elements of dance, theater, circus, striptease, cabaret… It is an expression of feminism and at the same time female sex appeal, it can be a comic mockery or a performance full of glamor and glitter. The word burlesque comes from Italian and at first means ridicule - it is a parody, a caricature. It is used in literature and classical music, and later (especially in the USA) it became synonymous with ‘variety show’ - a show that includes various genres intended for entertainment: stand up comedy, illusionism, juggling, acrobatics, dance,Burlesque first flourished as early as the Victorian era (19th century) and soon settled in America. Comedians and dancers entertain the audience, there is no lack of political satire or even wrestling. In the 20th century, interest in this kind of entertainment is slowly beginning to wane. But in America they find a solution - the dancers start undressing to attract the audience in times of economic crisis and prohibition! Many of the most famous artists come from that time: Sally Rand, Gypsy Rose Lee, Tempest Storm, Lili St. Cyr, Blaze Starr, Ann Corio, Dixie Evans,… They also make a good number of films that try to show the splendor of that time.Burlesque is experiencing its renaissance in the 90s with artists such as Jo ‘Boobs’ Weldon, Dirty Martini, Satan’s Angel, Immodesty Blaize, Dita von Teese and even the band Pussycat Dolls. Surely you’ve all watched the movie with Christina Aguilera and Cher too!
