School medicinal plants

In this article I want to introduce other plants that exist in my school environment, namely types of plants that can be used for health. What is often referred to as herbal medicine whose properties have been guaranteed. Maybe you also grow some of your own country's medicinal plants, which I will mention later, may be in your yard.

Caring for the environment by planting medicinal plants on school grounds also needs to be preserved apart from planting other plants. Environmental care activities and the introduction of medicinal plants to students to increase their knowledge about natural wealth that can be used besides the environment will be cool, shady and can also create a clean and green landscape.

Environmental care activities and the introduction of medicinal plants began with planting medicinal plants around the school environment. The planting of medicinal plants is carried out simultaneously with an explanation of the types and benefits of medicinal plants. The planting of medicinal plants is carried out by students and accompanied by teachers or by students from the Teaching Campus Program.

Using the school land as a living pharmacy

At all levels of education are always taught about love for the environment but sometimes it needs to be done with real action. So that all students do real things related to loving the environment or being friendly with nature. One concrete action that can be taken together is to create a living pharmacy (medicinal plant land) in the school environment. The existence of a live pharmacy in the school can certainly complement the existing garden.

Creating a living pharmacy does not require providing a large yard. But enough with the land in the school. Teachers can choose a suitable location for a living pharmacy.

In addition to having the benefits of having a live pharmacy in the school environment, it also has a positive impact on students and schools, including :

• Cultivating a friendly attitude with nature and the environment

• Increase knowledge for students

• for high school or vocational schools can be a source of research

• Improve the quality of school accreditation

• Make the school environment beautiful

Some medicinal plants that exist in the school environment where I teach

1. Lemongrass

Lemongrass is a plant that is easy to grow and the most widely planted. Not only in the school environment and in the yard of the house also many people plant lemongrass. Lemongrass in addition to functioning as an additional ingredient for cooking fragrances is also delicious in making health drinks. The scent of fresh lemongrass is liked by humans but not liked by mosquitoes. By planting lemongrass in your home or school environment, you will not only make the house look beautiful, but also repel and prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the yard, which then enter the house or classroom.

2. Betadine tree

This Betadine or iodine plant has the scientific name Jatropha multifida L, belongs to the Euphorbiaceae family, and is still a relative of the jatropha tree. This betadine or iodine tree has various names in each region. Everyone must be familiar with the benefits of betadine. The benefits of betadine leaves can help the body process blood clots more quickly. This leaf will control your blood flow that comes out when you have a nosebleed or get injured when you fall or get cut by a sharp object. The benefits of betadine leaves as a medicine you can use to cure eczema.

3. Guava tree

You know this tree? In addition to fruit that can be consumed. The leaves also have many benefits, one of which can treat stomach aches or streaks. And many other benefits

4. Temulawak ( Curcuma ) and turmeric

These two plants are plants that cannot be forgotten in the medicinal plant group. Because it has been patented as a plant that has good benefits for health. Temulawak or curcuma has the scientific name Curcuma zanthorrhiza, is a native Indonesian herbal plant that is often used to treat various health problems, ranging from lack of appetite, stomach disorders, constipation, diarrhea, fever, arthritis, to impaired liver function. This plant is still a close relative of turmeric. The difference is that temulawak tastes more bitter than turmeric. Turmeric is usually used for cooking, while temulawak is more suitable for medicine.
