Types of rabbits 2
Good evening kind read.cash people, how are you?
Continuing with what I told you in the previous post, we have seen many types of cute rabbits, but there are many more.
Sunday evening, February 20
In the previous article I talked about the Flanders rabbit, which is a really huge rabbit that can measure up to 1 meter. The rex rabbit has two types, the standard rabbit that weighs up to 5 kilograms and the mini rabbit that weighs between 1 to 2 kilograms. The Belier Rabbit has different types of rabbits: French Belier Rabbit, Dutch Belier, English Belier, German Belier, Lionhead Belier and the Kashmir Belier, and lastly I talked about the white rabbit of Florida.
Types of rabbits
Toy Rabbit or Dwarf Rabbit
This rabbit does not grow much, it is really small, it is the opposite of the Giant Flanders Rabbit. The weight of an adult Toy rabbit is between 1 kilo and 1.5 kilos. Its ears are short with rounded tips and its nose is really flat. Their head and body are rounded which makes them really tender. Its size can be between 33 to 50 centimeters, it is really small.
It is one of the most active types of rabbits, so they must have a good habitat for them to play and jump. The character of this type of rabbits will be according to their care and education. These rabbits are somewhat skittish, active and curious. This type of rabbit needs a lot of time, affection and patience. They also need daily exercise, so it is good for them to be free.
This rabbit, unlike the others, is independent, this is why it can be nervous and fearful, to avoid its isolated behavior it is convenient to get it used to us daily by playing and offering it treats, this way the rabbit will be sweet and friendly.
Lionhead rabbit
Its fur is long on its head, creating a sort of lion-like mane which gives its name to its breed, the rest of the fur on its body is medium. These funny rabbits emerged by pure chance in Belgium a long time ago, although until recently it has not been popularized beyond European borders, this breed is the result of crossing netherland dwarf rabbits and Swiss fox rabbits.
This breed of rabbit is very sweet and calm, they can weigh between 1 to 2 kilos. These rabbits are really small so they have been classified as Toy rabbits, therefore, there is no dwarf lionhead rabbit variety, as they are all Toy.
This breed of rabbits has a very special character, as they are extremely affectionate and continuously look for affection from their humans, resulting adorable the way they have of asking for the caresses they enjoy so much. They are ideal to have them as pets, as they are calm and sociable.
The body of the lion-headed rabbit is compact and short, with rounded shapes and a wide chest. What stands out most, apart from its mane, are its long ears, which can measure about 7 centimeters. It has round eyes that protrude slightly and are very bright.
The hair of the lion-headed rabbit is of medium length, except on the head, where when they are born the hair is extremely long and thick compared to the hair on the rest of the body, reaching 5-7 centimeters in length.
American Chinchilla Rabbit
It is a rabbit that receives its name because of its great resemblance to the fur of the chinchilla, although there is no kinship between them. The ancestors which gave life to this breed are the Himalayan and the Beveren Blue.
These rabbits are born with a dark coat and as they grow, their color changes from an ashy tone to a grayish blue color. Male rabbits can exceed 4 kilos and females can weigh between 1 or 2 kilos, the size and weight is very different between them.
Their face is sympathetic and they have two long ears that tilt backwards. Their dark brown eyes are very expressive. The fur of these rabbits should be brushed 2 or 3 times a week, where the dirt is removed from their fur. Keeping their fur clean prevents the appearance of mites and fleas. The feeding of the rabbit will consist of unlimited hay, feed and fruit and vegetables.
Angora Rabbit
These are rabbits with long and silky fur. Many people breed them to take advantage of their fur. These rabbits need daily brushing to keep their fur silky.
The Angora rabbit is a breed of rabbit originating from Turkey, more specifically from the Ankara region, where the Angora cat also comes from. Originally, these rabbits were developed primarily for the exploitation of their coat, which was used to make the valuable fiber known as Angora wool.
The characteristics of the Angora rabbit vary slightly according to the variety to which each individual belongs. The most characteristic feature is its abundant fur.
The color of fur that most identifies the Angora rabbit is white, but it is possible to find individuals with different shades, such as gray, cinnamon, cream or brown. The only exception is the giant variety, whose fur must be completely white.
When introduced in different countries, the "original" Angora rabbits began to be selectively crossed with other rabbits typical of each country or region. And it is in this way that the four varieties of Angora rabbits have arisen, which are the following:
English Angora rabbit
This is the smallest variety, weighing between 2.5 and 4 which is why it is considered a type of dwarf rabbit. Its body is compact and robust, with abundant silky textured hairs all over the body.
French Angora rabbit:
This variety is of medium size, weighing between 4 and 5 kg in adulthood. Its body is oval in shape and stands out for having its face and ears surrounded by tufts of smooth hair.
Giant Angora rabbit:
This is the largest variety of Angora rabbit, weighing no less than 4.5 kg and eventually reaching 6 kg. Its fur is completely white.
Satin angora rabbit:
This variety stands out for the brightness of its fur. Their fur is short and soft to the touch, but not as abundant as the other varieties. Its size is medium, weighing around 4 kg in adulthood.
Their character is docile and balanced, they are usually very peaceful and behave in a patient and affectionate way. They are social and enjoy the company of their family members and can adapt very well with other animals. As long as they have a positive environment and feel safe, they make excellent pets.
German Angora rabbit
This variety stands out for its friendly and affectionate behavior. Its fur is different from other Angora rabbits, although it is quite similar to the English Angora rabbit in its body shape. Its character is docile and balanced, they are usually very peaceful and behave in a patient and affectionate way.
Harlequin Rabbit
This rabbit owes its name to a very particular characteristic. This breed of rabbit arose as a result of a cross between wild rabbits and semi-wild Dutch rabbits.
Fun fact: this breed of rabbit was called Japanese rabbit before World War I, but its name was changed to harlequin rabbit after World War II.
These rabbits weigh between 2.7 and 3.6 kilograms, and normally male rabbits are smaller than female rabbits. Their head is proportionally larger than the body and they have ears that stand upwards and end in rounded tips.
The body of these rabbits is compact and elongated, their legs have a developed musculature unlike other rabbits, which makes them very powerful.
Their coat is short, straight, shiny and silky. The most characteristic feature of this breed of rabbit is the color pattern. Two types of fur can be distinguished in the harlequin rabbit:
Magpie: white based mixed with blue, black, chocolate or lilac. These spots are in the form of bands, bars or a mixture of them.
Japanese: with orange base and combinations of chocolate, lilac, blue or black.
The harlequin rabbit is considered one of the most affable and affectionate domestic rabbits. It is noted for its kindness and the ease with which it can be domesticated and live in the home. They should always be accompanied, they do not tolerate loneliness and do not get along well with other animals, but they need the love and attention of their human family.
Tan Rabbit
The Tan rabbit is the closest thing to a rottweiler or doberman in rabbit version. They are really strange, they appeared in England at the end of the XIX century and are a consequence of the mixture between wild rabbits and Dutch rabbits. In the beginning these rabbits were not so small, in fact, it is said that they were much bigger than the current ones. These rabbits seem to be always alert, but the most characteristic feature is their original color, which delights us with a marked black, with just a few orange touches.
Their body is characterized by being compact and having a balance between their head and the rest of the body and bone structure. These rabbits are really intelligent, curious and friendly, apart from all this they are also very energetic, they always need to be exercising. These rabbits are currently of medium size, weighing up to 2.5 kilograms.
These rabbits were not at all a suitable rabbit to breed, this breed had a very strong character which did not make it tameable, however, thanks to the modifications that it has had through the years it has been achieved that its temperament has changed a lot.
As I said before, they have a lot of energy so they need a lot of space to let off steam, so you must guarantee them a wide space, exercise is very important in their daily life. These rabbits tend to soil a lot more, so it is important that grooming is done frequently.
Butterfly Rabbit
Known as butterfly rabbits or english spot rabbits, the butterfly rabbit is a breed of rabbit that is characterized by its beautiful spotted fur. The special thing about their spots is that they are distributed in a very particular way, giving this rabbit a unique appearance. These rabbits have been popular for many years for their good character and for being excellent companion rabbits. It is very common to find this breed of rabbit as a pet all over the world.
The butterfly rabbit is a medium-sized rabbit and weighs between 2 and 3 kilograms. This breed has a marked arch on its back, reaching from the neck to the rear. The best way to identify these rabbits is by their spots. The ideal coat pattern of the breed is very specific, it has a base color and in this color there are specks or spots. These spots should follow the following distribution: a chain of dots that runs from the hind legs and tail to the neck, where a line begins that follows the animal's spine. It should also have a mark on the front legs, as well as on the cheeks, a circle around the eyes and a colored nose. The ears and their base should have the same color as the markings. All these markings should be well defined, without being blurred or showing any shading of the base color. In addition, this fur is always short and very dense.
Colors of the butterfly rabbit
Black butterfly rabbit: with a white base and spots of an intense and shiny black color. The eyes are dark brown.
Chocolate butterfly rabbit: its spots on a white base are chocolate brown, dark and shiny. The eyes are brown.
Golden butterfly rabbit: golden spots, which must be very distinct from the white base, being clean and bright, with very well defined shapes. The eyes are brown.
