what is global warming?

perhaps all of us are aware of this topic due to numerous news yet most of us are lacking in information about what is the real meaning or rationale of global warming and how devastating its effects in our home planet if it continuously put into deaf ears and we humans don't combine our strength and knowledge to totally eradicate this problem.

Global warming is the unusually rapid increase in the surface temperature of the planet over the past centuries, this happens due to continuous and too much emission of Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere that results in the absorption of infrared radiation from the sun which is usually reflected back into the space by our planet thus heating the surface of the earth above its normal temperature and increasing it from time to time.

what are the effects of global warming?

Global warming affects almost everything that is present on earth but let's just focus on the major effects these are;

  • Climate change

  • increasing in water level of the globe

  • melting of the largest glaciers in the earth's pole regions

Climate change

Climate change is probably the most common topic that we can think about when we talk about the effects of global warming, climate change simply means shifting climates, season patterns in a particular place.

Say for example in the Philippines which is a tropical country thus it experience the rainy season and dry season. the usual time frame of the dry season in this country is around December to May while the rainy season starts in the month of June and lasts up to November. However, because of climate change, the usual seasonal pattern has also changed and the weather is fluctuating, that's why there are times that supposedly a time for the rainy season but it's still hot as summer, in fact, it is way hotter than summer but most of the time the seasons are just arriving late from its normal time of occurring.

Another way of determining climate change is comparing the past weather seasons from the present season, let's say for example the tropical cyclones or typhoons nowadays are extremely more powerful and devastating as compared before. The best example of this is the horrifying and deadly super typhoon Yolanda with the international name "Haiyan". Climate change does not only affect rainy seasons in fact because of unusual changes in the weather patterns a massive dry season might occur, but we also call it El Nino, this unusual weather pattern forms when warm ocean temperature abnormally builds up along the equator hence through time it will warm the temperature of the atmosphere. Its counterpart is La Nina, this occurs right after the el Nino because the previous season drastically increases the atmosphere's temperature it will create a large amount of moisture-rich air to rise up and finally forms a massive weather system like a rainstorm, thunderstorm, and even deadly typhoons or hurricane.

Melting of Glaciers and the Increasing of the water level of the Planet

The earth's poles consist of a large number of glaciers including big ones which helps to regulate and maintain the temperature of the earth, in fact, monsoons were affected by this, like for instance, in the Philippines particularly in the eastern part, northeast monsoons commonly known as "amihan" gives cold weather normally from the month of October up to late March. The cold breeze of this monsoon helps to regulate and at least lessen the formation of weather season especially typhoons or if not at least it helps to reduce the strength of the system so that a tropical cyclone or Low-pressure area will not reach a fearful level of catastrophe.

The importance of the earth's poles together with the vast and large glaciers there, helps the earth not only by creating monsoons as I explained above, but the glaciers also have a much bigger role and we all need to understand this very carefully. The poles can reflect up to 90% of solar radiation back to outer space, this helps all earths settlers for we living things cannot handle too much solar radiation. however human activities harm the environment and push even further global warming and as a result, a large amount of glaciers in the polar regions has totally vanished, which results in a shocking rapid increase in ocean level.

what or who is responsible for this?

Because of the uncontrollable urge of innovation without considering the devastating effect in our nature and too much usage of our natural resources as well as the increasing and continuous emission of toxic gasses and greenhouse gasses in which we humans are to blame and let's not put aside the abusive deforestation without even replacing it and again humans are the root of these problems, all of these will make our life miserable or perhaps more devastating than we expected. Maybe 100 years from now the earth will completely take its toll on what humankind did. And guess what? our future generations will definitely suffer and bear the consequences of their ancestor's carelessness and selfishness.

I hope that this short article opens your eyes to our current situation, please remember that no one can resolve this issue alone. thus no one bears the consequences alone. If we don't make a move now then the existence of humanity is always in danger every single minute of our life. Always put into your mind that we all contribute to what our planet looks like today thus we shall all contribute to refreshing it just like before.
