Kazi Nazrul Islam the National poet of Bangladesh also known as The Rebel Poet born in 25 May, 1899 at churulia village in burdwan district,kalkata. Today is the 121st Birthday of this national poet.
As the rememberence Google doodle made an alternation on its Bangladeshi Homepage today, showing the "bidrohi kobi" (rebel poet) holding a green notebook while another avatar of the poet writing up a storm of verses in the background.
Nazrul has inspired people to fight against injustice and repression of the colonial rule through his writing.
Nazruls writings inspired Bengalis to join all democratic movements including the anti-british movement, the language movement, the mass uprising in 1969 and the Liberation War in 1971 against Pakistan.
Nazrul’s rebellious writing much of which he published in his own magazines. Dhumketu (the comet) resulted in frequent prisonment, Which in turn inspired one of his most well known work "Rajbondir Jobanbondhi" (The deposition of a political prisoner)
Nazrul wrote around 4000 songs which brought him national popularity. The War Anthem of Bangladesh "Chol Chol Chol" (move move move) is taken from one of the Nazrul’s peotry. For his incredible literature contribution, Nazrul was named the national poet of Bangladesh in 1972.
