Our topic for today is to *watch and pray.* Lead image from unsplash.com **What does it mean to Watch** Watch according to the English dictionary means The act of guarding and protecting someone or something. To us watch simply means the act of viewing or seeing things, but it is more than just that. Watch according to the bible can also be seen as being careful and fleeing away from the evil spirit and temptations of the world. **What does it mean to pray** To pray simply means the act of saying a prayer. And we all know prayer is a way of talking to God. Therefore to pray means either giving adoration and thanks to God for what he has done or requesting help or forgiveness of sins. **Watch and pray** The clause "*watch and pray*" was said by Jesus several times in the bible. One of it was when he went to pray on the mountain, he noticed his disciples were not with him, he came out and met them sleeping. He told them to watch and pray Nowadays, there are trials and tribulations, we need to make "*watch and pray"* our motto. Nations are standing against nations, bombings, kidnapping, manslaughter, and other evil things are much all over the world. One can only overcome all these by watching and praying. **Am I not praying enough?** Praying without being watchful is just like pouring water into a basket. Prayer can only help you boost your watchfulness. The two works together, that is why Jesus kept repeating it to the people. For example, you can't say you are prayerful and decide to cross a busy road without looking out for oncoming vehicles. In that case, even though you've prayed for safety from accident, you still need to watch. The two words work together. Likewise, If there is any man that doesn't pray, but claims to be watchful and always at alert, he/she is just deceiving himself/herself. I've heard of a Nightwatchman who was killed on duty by armed robbers. What is the work of a Nightwatchman? Isn't it to keep watch over a house. This shows that watching alone isn't enough. We need to watch and pray. **Why do we need to watch and pray?** **To keep us away from all the dangers of earth,** **To draw us close to God and away from sin,** **To help us overcome the challenges and temptations in this world,** **To make things easy and successful for us, and** **To make us see God on the last day.** ***Thanks for reading 🙏❤️***
