Sensex falls over 650 points minutes before closing
Sensex and Nifty were deep in red on Monday on the back of weak global cues. The 30-stock Sensex was down over 500 points on opening while the 50-stock Nifty fell below the 10,950 mark. Titan and Tata Steel were the only stocks to trade with gains on BSE Sensex, while IndusInd Bank and Kotak Mahindra bank shares were down more than 3% each.
Bank stock were the worst performers with all except SBI in the red. Reliance Industries too was down over 1%. Among sectoral indices Nifty Auto, Nifty PSU Bank were in green while all others were in the red. Mid-cap and Small-cap indices were seen outperforming the benchmark indices.
European stocks whipsawed Monday morning as another big week for corporate earnings kicked off, while U.S. lawmakers attempt to hammer out a new coronavirus aid package.
