Can we really spot fake news?
Had a conversation the other day with a guy about fake news and disinformation. And he was like, people should be free to decide for themselves if something is real or not. I tried to explain that for many users this is impossible.
I believe what I see he said. So I sent him as an example the website https://thispersondoesnotexist.com.
Yeah, what he said. Do you see anything wrong I asked. What do you mean he replied. He didn't even notice the name of the site.
Anyway, I explained that the website creates fake photos of people who in reality do not exist. Every time you refresh the page you get a new photo.
Sometimes of course the AI will make small mistakes. But in 99% of the cases you can't tell the difference from real photos.
He never replied back.
