Women Empowerment in the Arab
The decision taken by the Saudi authorities to allow women to perform the Hajj without a male guardian is warmly welcomed around the globe. In the registration guidelines issued by the Saudi authorities, the spokesman of the ministry of hajj and Umrah said, women could go for Hajj without a male guardian. It is the major initiative being taken by the government since Muhammad Bin Salman took the oath. The decision makes it easier for women to perform the Hajj. Before this many women were keen to go for the Hajj but, couldn’t go because of the implication from the Saudi authorities.
In the last few years, the Saudi government has started to lift many restrictions it had placed against women’s freedom. In the past, Saudi Arabia has been under criticism from the west over its cruel attitude towards the freedom of women in the country. The Shah Salman’s government took the initiative to soften the laws for women. The previous governments also went through reforms that reduce gender discrimination, under which women were allowed the right to drive in June 2018. This reform will help Saudi women to engage in business activities and will get them the opportunity to avail the of government jobs.
Another step took by the authorities is the permission for women to live independently without the sole concern of their relatives. According to the reports, the legal authorities amend article 169, paragraph (b), replaced with an amendment that states: "An adult woman has the right to choose where to live. A woman’s guardian can report her only if he has evidence proving she committed a crime."
Other than this many restrictions have been lifted that allow women's freedom in the country. Women should be free in all the way as the man in our society. Women can take part in all activities as men in the modern era. These are good initiatives taken by the Saudi authorities to curb the restrictions on the women of the state. The authorities should do more for the rights of the women to bring them equal to the men.
