The death toll from the quake in Turkey has risen to 39, while the quake completely destroyed several buildings in Izmir.

According to the Turkish Disaster Management Agency, about 20 buildings collapsed and more than 800 people were injured in the quake in Izmir, with more deaths feared. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan reviewed the relief efforts in Izmir and expressed deep sorrow for the victims. The Turkish Urbanization Minister said in a statement that rescue operations have been completed in eight buildings that collapsed in the quake. A 7.0-magnitude earthquake in the Aegean Sea severely affected the historic Turkish city of Izmir and the Greek island of Samos.
