Marriage is a legal and social commitment that two people make to share their lives and family responsibilities together. In other words, marriage is a legal union between a man and woman boy and girl. Reason for marriage include procreation, love, companionship, security, status, Religious obligations, security, for sexual considerations and conforming to social standards. Court marriage this is a situation where the partners go to court for a judge to marry them legally. They are expected to provide evidence of parental approval before the court will perform the ceremony.
Religious marriage: In Nigeria, it could be Christian marriage or Muslim marriage. Both of them are conducted according to the laid down rules of the pastor or Imam performs the ceremonial function. The important of parental approval in this context is that, marriage goes beyond the two parties involved as it is a family affair.
Traditional marriage. Before the arrival of both religious "Islam and Christianity" and finally the formal structures of government which court is one of them, there were traditional ways of conducting marriages in Africa in general and in Nigeria particular. The traditional marriage differ from one ethnic group to another.
