SUNNI ISLAM According to SUNNI TRADITION, prophet MOHAMMED did not clearly designate a successor and the Muslim community acted according to his Sunnah in electing his Father in-law ABU BAKR at first caliph. Common mistake we make by ourselves is to assume that SUNNI ISLAM represent a normative Islam that emerged during the period after prophet MOHAMMED death,and that SUFISM and SHI'ISM development out of SUNNI Islam.
