Jallianwala Bagh massacre: A protest meeting was held at Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar, the capital of Punjab, to protest against the Rawlat Act and the appointment of General Dyer as the Governor of Punjab. At the behest of General Dyer, 1,000 Indians were killed when British troops opened fire on a rally. This is called the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. In response, Rabindranath Tagore relinquished his knighthood to the British.
