Levelling is a measurement process, whereby the differnce in height between two or more points can be determined.

Purpose of levelling.

1. To establish new vertical control (Benchmark or Temporary Benchmark).
2. To determine the height of discrete points.
3. To provide spot heights or contours.
4. To provide data for road cross sections of volumes of earthworks.
5. To provide a level a incline plane in the setting out of cross section works.
