Dubai: Dubai has imposed more restrictions on tourist visas. Now, visa applicants must present a six-month bank statement, return ticket, a letter promising that they would return, and proof of reservation for the hotel where they would be staying.
Those coming to Dubai to meet relatives on a tourist visa should also provide proof of the relative's address and a copy of his or her Emirates ID along with the application.
Only the Emirate of Dubai had been issuing tourist visas to the UAE. This will put an end to the practice of going to countries, including Kuwait, via Dubai. Many Indians had gone to Kuwait with a negative certificate obtained from Dubai after completing a 14-day quarantine as they were not allowed direct entry into Kuwait.
Earlier, the return ticket could be booked after the visa was issued. From now on, a return ticket is necessary to apply for a tourist visa. There are some who fear that this move could result in people losing the money spent on tickets if the visa is denied.
The new rules, however, do not apply to applications for extension of visit visa from those already staying in the country.
It is not clear if this applies to the visit visas that are sought by individuals and institutions.
There are now many barriers even for the entry of resident visa holders.
