Discipline is the ability to control, and this most times comes in form of punishment. This is because it is you trying to enforce a change, and this will involve tearing down what was before.
Discipline is of different types, the one we exhibit towards people, and that we carry out on ourselves. Whichever it is, the aim is always to control a wrong behaviour that's growing, to correct a wrong practice and to imbibe in the person valuable behaviours
Now relating this to self-discipline, we can say that this is the act of controlling oneself, teaching oneself obedience and order. And this always comes with punishment because it isn't always easy getting to will your body into doing what is right.
