Hello, dear friend of Read!
A few days ago I found out that a national poetry contest will be held. It is the first contest I see about it in my country, Venezuela.
What makes me feel very happy that they take into account this literary genre. Supporting the talent that there is. So I will participate in it.
So I am studying on my own, with the help of books and internet, the creation of poems. I usually write poetry, but, in prose, in a free form, without any structure that governs it. However, I want to give my best in this contest.
I take the opportunity to mention here @C1udadan0x a Spanish-speaking user, who is an excellent writer of poems.
Contest rules.
The contest starts on July 7, until August 2. And the winners will be announced on August 24.
This is the first national poetry contest. I found out about it through the Facebook page of the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism (MINEC). And the evaluation of the poems will be done by poets appointed by that ministry.
In addition there will be three (3) categories to evaluate the poems. The first one for children up to 12 years of age. The second, for young people up to 25 years of age. And the third, corresponding to adults, from 26 years of age and older.
I still do not know what will be given to award the winners. But, all the poems registered in the contest will be part of the patrimony of Amalivaca Ediciones. But this will not generate monetary value for the poets.
On the other hand, to participate, we must register on their website. To learn about each step, you can see the guide and the basis of the contest at the top right, available in PDF.
After registration, you must attach the poem in PDF and WORD. This poem must have a minimum of 10 verses, and a maximum of 30. In addition to focusing on the themes of climate change, which are reflected in the contest rules.

About writing poetry.
I love writing poetry, it's something I've been doing for a long time. However, I have published only some of my poems on my Wattpad account. I only write what comes from my heart, in a way that sounds nice.
But, I didn't have an accurate knowledge about poetry. Until now.
The poetry I perform is free, unstructured. But, for this contest I am going to perform another kind of poems.
So, I have set out to study, dusting off my high school books, and researching on the internet.
The first thing to know is what is verse, stanza, rhyme, meter, and what is prose. These are the basic knowledge that allow us to understand the study of poetry.
Other aspects that are important are, types of rhyme, types of verse, types of stanzas, metrics, and pauses. All this information can be found on the Internet, and in some high school books.
What I have just mentioned is to know how to create poetry, and to know what technique to use. Once we choose what makes us feel comfortable, we can start creating and give free rein to our imagination.
And finally, I think it is relevant, to read poetry. It inspires us a lot. It helps us write better. It also gets us out of writer's block. However, we should not only read poetry, but all kinds of texts. Reading is what helps us to expand our vocabulary, and to have a broad knowledge.
