Since when do you think alcohol beverage was invented? What are the motives in consuming alcohol? Why do you think some people like to engage in drinking? Such questions aproached my head when the latter question keeps knocking on my mind.. So, I would like to write about it because I was married to a man who in one way or another wants or likes or needs those damn intoxicating liquid in his system especially the spirit of 80% proof.
With December, Christmas,New Year around the corner and many other occasions being celebrated during these seasons alcohol beverages floods the Filipino table. Such triggers the anxious part of my brain.
Basically, I would be writing base on my experience, observation and some research..
As early as 7000 BC, mixed of fermented beverages was found from neolithic village Jiahu in the Henan province of northern China.According to experts, residues of the fermented drinks from grapes, haythorn, berries, honey and rice proved that it was produced around 7000-6650 BC,around the time when grape wine and barley beer were beginning to be produced in the middle east.
However, even here in our own village and nearby villages in the olden times up until now, they made beverages out of fermented rice, sugarcane and some berries.
So I conclude that these beverages were made even during early times and people discovered the process of fermentation on their own traditional way.
Peer pressure was one among the reasons I know why people have tried and experience to do so.. This is a fact common among teen agers from high school and college students. Especially those beeing bullied and turn to wrong circle of friends who engage to alcohol drinking.. The sense of belongingness is what they want to feel.
Stress caused by academic pressure, family problems and those broken hearted of their puppy love, am I right? This still falls under teenage alcohol engagement.
Social belongingness.. Just as it is, teenagers do so to show they already are grown ups, but boy you're wrong. Engaging to such leads to being alcoholic on later life. As for adults,it is their way to socialize during occasions. So there's no problem here as long as it is in moderation.
I always wonder why do people engaged to this kind of socialization with this alcohol always present? Where in fact it was so bitter with the after effect of hot feeling leading to one being drunk..
According to surveyors and researchers, the reason or motives why people drink are sociability enhancement, increase power, escape problems, for enjoyment, ritualistic purpose,and/or for the mere purpose of getting drunk..
Drinking moderately has positive effect on the human body as long as one is healthy and do it responsibly. Some health benefits are reduced developing and risked of dying from coronary disease;possible reduce ones risk of ischemic stroke;possible reduce ones risk of acquiring diabetis. However, the risk jump to a high level if one is a heavy drinker, instead of being reduced.
Nevertheless, the thought of drinking moderately was being set aside when and specially if one enjoys the company of his friends especially in times of occasions. This leads to heavy drinking.
Stress among adults was one among the reason of drinking for the motive of forgetting even just for a while, cope with problems and to cheer themselves when sad.
How often do we see and hear accidents related to alcohol consumption?Killings related to alcohol intoxication? Often, we hear it on news over the radio or watch it on tv and read it newspapers and other social sites.
How often do we see dreams go broken? Family gone broken because of these intoxicating beverages?
What should I or am I supposed to say?
Drinking moderately may have beneficial effects but these are little things that can be attained thru good lifestyle and proper diet. Comparing to its effect on later years, this moderate drinking turns to heavy consumption leading to numerous health risk including cancer, high blood pressure, diabetis, severe brain damage to an unborn child of a woman, liver diseases, heart disease, accidents and many to mention. Thus, the possible benefits is too little and it doesn't outweigh the risks and avoiding alcohol is the best course.

It's usually men who do become heavy drinkers for some reason. Sad though but i guess that's because it's the only coping mechanism they have. My dad was also an alcoholic, it was one of the many causes of him ruining the family
