How Religion is Exploited in Promoting MLM and Pyramiding Schemes

In religious settings, devotees are often known to follow the voices of their leaders no matter what. Since those leaders are known as “God's chosen emissaries,” their followers would just take their word as “canon law” which is another way of saying, “obey me or you will rot in hell.”

While such a notion is really disturbing, such a scenario is really happening. Many scammers are utilizing the power of religion because of the unquestionable loyalty that the people in there are showing. It’s really quite sad, but even the wise and holy avenues of churches are already infiltrated by the evil sides of the business.

Because other people would surely follow their examples because of the allure of money, MLM groups grow in membership rapidly before it becomes evident that most of the members will never make money. Oftentimes, the losing or failing members are too ashamed to break out from their silence.

Because pyramid schemes and MLMs are showcased with wealth, fame, and empowerment, they can be blamed for their own failure. They can never blame the system that they joined because there are actually living people that can give proof as to the scheme’s power and efficacy.

By showing proof of sudden wealth from the very few who made it, the pyramid schemers can already appear powerful and effective. And since most of the onlookers are greedy and desperate, they will focus on the small percentage of the successful ones. They will forget to take into account that there are actually more losers than there are winners.

When asked about why many people are losing more than they’re earning, the founders would just say that those losers did not work hard enough, or maybe, those people are not meant for business, to begin with. “It’s not our fault that those people don’t have what it takes,” you’d be given with that kind of thought by the scammers.

Thinking that another similar system would work for them, many people have actually tried investing in other MLMs while losing great amounts of money each time. Because of their desperation and willingness to get rich, they would gamble again and again – getting deceived repeatedly without ever learning their lessons.

Pyramiding and MLM Aren’t Exactly The Same

Although MLMs and pyramiding groups can be viewed as the same, many experts claim that they are not. The lines that separate the 2 are still very blurry. Pyramiding schemes let members earn from the people they recruit.

Technically, multi-level marketing is labeled differently because members earn commissions out of the products or services that they can sell. In reality, though, people rarely make money out of the products they obtained from MLM businesses.

We might say that the founders of MLM companies are the very same people who were organized of pyramiding schemes that failed in the past. By embellishing their business with a new set of methods and tactics, they made it appear as something new, though it’s still the same monster that has been preying upon people already in the past.

The brilliant thing about multi-level marketing firms like Vemma is that they incorporate the power pyramiding to make a profit. They obscure the shadiness of their company by utilizing products that people can sell or make use of.

Many MLM groups also exploit existing social groups and leverage the trust and legitimacy that those groups have already established. Such groups include schools, workplaces, and even churches. Some of the earliest recruits are encouraged to make good reports and reviews before they even start making money.

How To Deal With These Dangerous Schemes

To easily spot pyramiding and other similar schemes from afar, there are actually clear indications you can use for detection.

Time pressure is one red flag. If you can see or hear statements such as “This is a limited offer!” or “Join now or you’ll miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!” You have to start turning away. Promises of huge amounts that you can earn in a very short timeframe are also a clear indicator. Solid riches things that you can’t get in an instant, as what you will learn later on.

Also, a truly honest and legitimate multi-level company, if it promises to make your life better shouldn’t ask you for any payment at all. If you are really tasked to sell their products, wouldn’t you be deemed as their worker or partner? Why would they ask for money from you so you can start selling for them?

Because of the false hopes and promises they unleash, pyramiding schemes and MLMs can really be destructive to a person, to a community, and even to an entire country. Build your wealth from scratch with patience and hard work… that’s the best and only way to have the stable finances you’re aiming for.

I once worked in a Multi-level Marketing firm as a field representative. I was just lucky to found such a legit MLM firm at that time. They don't require their recruits to pay some registration fees before entering. What they're doing is, if you agree to work with them, no matter how small or big your knowledge about the business, they will train you for free. If you're capable now of selling, they'll let you borrow their products and sell them every day. Though the salary is on a commission basis, it's still quite fun because they go on a road trip every week, and every week we can visit different places. If you hire more, you can make your team, be promoted to a higher position, can accumulate more products, and receive more bonuses every week.

How I wish all MLMs are like that. Unfortunately, only very few of them truly give value to their members. Thanks for dropping by.

Yeah, after I left the company, I never found any MLMs like them in our area again. Well, anyway, no problem. I'm dropping by whenever I got time to read.
