You are not cool if you are sick

My friends keep me updated. They send links to the latest news but also videos to brighten up my life. I can only watch them if I manage to download them first. Which can take a few days.

"You can sing along with this one" a friend texts me. It's a video about Kermit the frog, Kermit with a facemask.
It turns out not to be the latest video in this line of parodies. Another friend sends me two more. Kermit doing a corona test (positive tested with the coronavirus is cool the swine fever is not...) and another one I wasn't able to see yet.

Is it cool to have a disease?
To tell people you are tested positive? If you ask me it's not. Tests are not cool and they shouldn't be done out of fun, to know how it feels, to have something to talk about or brag about. Tests cost money, people who are already busy have extra work and a stick 3 centimetres up in your nose is not cool.
Being sick isn't cool, infecting others isn't cool either. It's nothing to brag about. So far no one ever loved to announce he has herpes, AIDS, a sexual disease... We all know if you do, label yourself, most people avoid you.

You are not cool if you are sick and if you infect others it's even seen as worse. If you are tested positive with the coronavirus and infect others you are not cool but a criminal. If you sneeze even one of the worst criminals there are. Strange enough you have never been sued if you infected someone with Influenza. The flu is an exception (Influenza is not the same as catching a cold). For some reason the flu but by now also measles and all those diseases we call "a child's disease", is no longer seen as a threat. We live with them, accept them besides many are vaccinated. Vaccination takes the fear away. Once the fear leaves, we are used to a disease, it no longer affects us. Society will ignore hygiene, ignore the symptoms and no longer see it as a threat. It's not said no one will get ill but if that happens we say it's just one out of a hundred or we shrug because "the entire school" has it, or say "it's the time of the year you get over it".

The only cool thing about the coronavirus is it's something new and it's a virus. Viruses are cool because they change fast. They always find a way to survive. I think it's cool each virus mutates into twenty new ones. Only a virus can do that.

It's over a year ago a certain type of coronavirus became famous. No one cares any longer who caused it. It's not important as long as it doesn't affect us. The Chinese survived this battle and their economy is doing well. Each other nation will win their battle too with or without vaccination or medical help. It's what history teaches us. No matter which plague the humankind only increases.

Medical help... It is a luxury. You will not easily visit a dentist or doctor and the new normal already taught us we are on our own. Many vets are bankrupt because a vet is a luxury too. Food is what we need most, healthy food on a daily basis. Only then we can skip the intake of vitamins, minerals, painkillers, antibiotics, prednisone, insulin, meds against high blood pressure, anxiety and depression. Only without these intakes, we get independent and the pharmacists no longer rule and poison us, the world, nature, plants and animal life.

As a pet owner, I am more concerned about animals their (mental) health than those of my fellow humans. For humans there is help, animals in need we prefer to kill. All those new diseases are triggered by us, by humans. It's our behaviour we should change. I do not easily feel sorry for sick people, I do not pity myself either and won't for those who never cared about their health. Why not you might ask.
My answer is simple. I care for those who suffer due to others, who are easily forgotten. It's what I did for the biggest part of my life. It's where most of my time and money went to. Animals, animals badly treated by people. Animals who accepted humans behaviour even if they felt trapped, been abused. Animals who were sold to the highest bidder, bought to show off just because they are something different. Animals who were dumped, kicked aside and molested and no one cared for. Animals bred and born to fill humans their pockets but if it came to it no one felt responsible for it. Animals abused and used to test what we consume, for our needs. Animals suffering and dying a terrible, painful death because we think it's cool to make them suffer.

As a pet owner, a former shelter owner, a worker at the zoo, a vet assistant and more I can only say I changed my opinion. I didn't do each animal well and I regret that. I regret it more than anyone will ever know. I wish I had the knowledge I have today twenty or thirty years ago. I saw so many animals suffer, too many. I did my best but it was not always the right best. Animals should be animals and if you can not guarantee that it's your problem and you are wrong. They deserve a good life, freedom, attention, care. They shouldn't be used to make us feel better and kicked aside if we found someone else or something better. You are not cool if you are sick but you are not a great pet owner either. It makes it hard to care once sick especially if your animals are ill too.

"The guy who buried his dog alive can have a new dog with supervision."
It's a message sent by my friend.

"How can one bury a husky alive," I ask, "a husky is a strong and fast dog".

"He molested the dog, tied it up and buried it".

This info is good for a discussion. Should such a person be allowed to have a dog or other pet again? If not who will check him daily? Also... how motivated are you to let someone into your house 24/7 to check you out. Personally, I wouldn't like it and say "no thanks" to the next dog or pet.
To be honest my opinion about pets, keeping animals changed. When exactly it started I can't tell. I guess the Zoo started it, the uncomfortable feeling of watching animals being locked in, seeing their stereotypical behaviour.
I kept many animals myself, I had a shelter, I worked at a Zoo and the only thing I can tell is we humans are not doing any good to animals. We might think we are but we do not. Even Zoo visitors molest animals. We should be aware an animal will always be an animal, animal behaviour included. Humans don't like this behaviour. We want pets to be little humans, we dress them and dye their fur. We don't care if they are bulky or have no food. We love to interfere in nature and breed with what is different no matter if it's healthy. We force a pup upon someone on our waiting list no matter if there is a click... and animal rescue... it isn't different from CPS. With us, these are people with hardly any knowledge about animals, animals and their natural behaviour. Their opinion is based on the latest hype.

"If mine died I won't take a new one," I tell my friend.

"New dog or pet," she informs.

"Most of us are not great pet owners. Look how many are dumped out on the street, in homes, how many are abused, molested, are forced to do tricks. Fishes are flushed through the toilet, hamsters found with a cage between the garbage..."

"If my dog dies I take a new one. Perhaps a small one because I'm getting older but I need the company and understand you."

"I can not let the dog out, my last home will be too small and to be honest after all those years of caring for so many animals I cannot say they brought me pleasure, enough pleasure to cover all those worries, expenses, sleepless nights."

I like animals but today I prefer them to be free and out in the wild.
