They tried to help me

"Sir," Katherine intervened, "we were trying to help my brother."

The lawyer wasn't very impressed by her words. He sighed and stared at the spot on the wall right above her head. It was a way to make people believe you looked at them without seeing them. The eyes... the mirrors of the soul at the other side of the table were cold. The soul was cold and dead souls weren't his favourite clients. The only reason he showed up was that they had forced him to.

" One hand washes the other," his colleague has joked as he put the photographs of an unattractive hand, a chopped off one on his desk.

"For God's sake," were the only words he was able to say before his colleague snarled ,"do not ever mention that name again!"

"You made a mess out of it. You know that I know it and you did not help your brother."

For a second they looked each other into the eyes. A cold chill ran through his chest...
"You don't need me. You came this far and are the only one who can end it.

"Sir you..."

He didn't care about them, how the story would end. The only thing he wanted was to get out of here.

"She has only one direction she can move- directly towards me."

"What makes you think that? There are more ways to Rome and as far as I see it you are not the Rome she is looking for."

Her brother was a kind of loser. No matter how she had hated her father for humiliating him, and her brother's lack of brains, this stupid dumbhead with his way too big ego was still her brother. It was true he was as lazy as one could be, spoiled to death because he was a boy, he didn't have any skills unless sleeping, gaming and bodybuilding counted, but even an idiot deserved a certain level of respect and a chance to be with the love of his life.

"Can you please stop doing that," she cried out.

It was disgusting to see how focussed he was on his own image in the mirror. How could anyone fall for a brainless monkey who only admired himself and did as he liked?

"They should have flushed the child away with the bath tub's water," she thought and for a second she felt the same disappointment her parents felt since at least twelve years.

There's a solution for everything if you keep your eyes open and practice some patience. A bit of help did the rest and she had helped them and so had her friends. He really felt grateful for that although it did beat him why everyone overreacted. They had finally listened to him and brought what he desired. A good girl, the girl of his dreams. One with a home of her own and money, enough money to make his parents proud of him again. "I am not a loser but a great catch," he had told his reflection in the mirror which had agreed and smirked back at him.
His helpers had solved his problem and a good rope had done the rest. It was just such a shame he had not enjoyed her as long as he had expected. Too soon it had come clear she refused to cooperate. They had tried, he had till the only way to make her stay was cutting off her hand. That hand that had rejected him and his wedding ring.

"They just tried to help me," he stated "and the rest... well, the rest is on me. I couldn't even say goodbye to her. Why didn't you let me say goodbye?"
