It's hard to tell what kind of people adore serial killers, serial killers and rapists. To some these monsters who enjoy to harm others, get a kick out of seeing the fear in someone's eyes, are true heroes.
A man killed at least 43 folks, he raped many more of all ages (children and the elderly included and a different race was no reason not to ). He did this for a long time, easily visited two homes a night and he got away with it. Most likely because no matter what a mess he left behind he didn't have one single pattern. A pattern specifically for a serial killer, or child molester or rapist or burglar. This man does it all and doesn't care about how he kills someone. After he slaughtered people, he raped women and children and eat a snack or... the complete fridge. This man felt comfortable with what he did, comfortable enough to stay in the house for hours without anyone noticing him.
The only thing he left behind, besides a bloodbath and mess was a (part of his) footprint. Not always but at times and if one inspector hadn't noticed it and acted like a bulldog this killer named Richard Ramirez (Ricky) would have continued what he did for many more years.
It all happened during the '80s more specific around 1985 at least this was the period Los Angeles and later San Fransisco was shaken up and the fear for the walk-in killer became reality. The police, a certain mayor, made many mistakes and as the killer, rapist and child molester was finally caught it was because of the community. People recognized him, followed him and beat him up. They might have killed this man, the night stalker (alias the walk-in killer) if the police wouldn't have saved his neck.
While watching the documentary (see Netflix) I cannot help thinking how unprofessional a lot of the investigation is done. How manipulative the media is but also the lack of rights victims, some survivors, have and above all how screwed up some people are. In this case, I do not refer to the killer but those who, after this monster was identified and in prison, became his fan, belonged to his groupies. They sent him letters, women adored him, sent nude photos of themselves and for sure what he did was followed by others. This is what happens. If the media gives attention to cruel deeds like these others see it as a solution or continue the 'good work'. To be a serial killer you do not need to kill that many people at all.
As he was still out killing, raping little boys and girls, grandmothers, shooting husbands through their head, everyone feared him. Once he was caught he became a hero to certain people. It makes one think. What is wrong with those people, people who adore and fall for serial killers? Not women only but men as well. How come some take a person like that for an example? What went wrong in their lives, mind, are these people the real losers of the society or are they so screwed up it's better to remove them out of the society?
Richard Ramirez was a monster and he didn't care about going to prison. He believed he stood above everything and everyone. He didn't believe in God, didn't want anyone to use the word 'god' he said he believed in satan. 'I swear on god," had to be "I swear on Satan". Of course, he had a bad childhood and there were plenty of excuses for why he did what he did although he never used them. As an outsider, he loved to be bad, loved to be satan himself. His acts were done out of his own free will. It might be he " followed satan" at first but those who listened to him know it's not true. He felt himself way better than satan. Who truly listens to what this monster says knows he isn't as confident as he claims to be. He had his fears and weak spots. A woman he shot at and missed he doesn't shoot at for the second time if he meets her later by surprise. A man he shot in his head while he's in bed stands up and chases his out of the house, a woman annoyed shouting as she wakes up saves her family's life. This killer is afraid of those who don't show fear, who are angry.
For sure he would have been punished differently today if he would end up in prison at all. Today he would be labelled as a 'confused man' and get away with it. That's what happens if you are not white. It's not that he was really punished since he never made it into the gas chamber. This serial killer, serial rapist, serial child molester, and burglar wasn't even sentenced for everything he has done. All the harm he did to others.
For two decennial he stayed in prison and next he died in hospital because of 'some sort of cancer' (some sort?).
I wonder how many still remember this serial killer. How do his groupies feel today? This man harmed way more people than Jack the Ripper did but no one ever mentions him. How come? Are we too used by killers, serial killers and rapists we can no longer see the monster or do we only care if it involves us? Are we to used to killers and talking good what is bad?
Never seen articles about him anywhere yet he did worse than Jack the ripper, oh what- Perhaps he did normalize letting the public in on his killings but it's just all kinds of messed up orz
