Psychology of A Serial Killer
Are serial killers born or created?
Hi! It's been a long time since I have the motivation to write an article and I just wanna reason myself that if I am unmotivated, my works would be definitely trash (seriously though, I am just lazy :<). But, I hope you enjoy this comeback article. Thank you very much!
I have always been fascinated with the psychology of serial killers not in a way of admiration but to the mystery and bizarreness of these multiple individuals who acquires satisfaction through sadistic ways with their victims and then killing them. In identifying a suspect of a certain crime scene, a serial killer to be exact, police and detectives go through a process of investigation with multiple stages. Profiling input is the first stage that the investigators do, by this they are able to collect evidences in the crime scene and assess the situation which helps them to do the following this stage in which they are able to classify the killers identity (organized and disorganized). Organized killers are those who undergo a scrutinous plan to kill their victims and does not leave evidences in the crime scene. Disorganized killers on the other hand are the opposite. They do not plan on killing but instead they go on a berserk that triggers them to do such evil things. These criminals typically leave fingerprints or blood and there is no attempt into moving or concealing the corpse after the murder. To identify a culprit, they must have characteristics that makes them a serial killer. The method of killing and the numbers (more than three incidents) that have the same pattern to that specific M.O are main factors for categorizing a suspect who's a serial killer.
Studies have shown that most of these people possess a high rate of intelligence and often have underlying psychological illnesses which have been a triggering factor of the murders. Infancy is one of the most important stages of the human development. If a child does not receive adequate attention and physical touch during this period, this may result to a serious suffering of substantial personality disorders in the future. In fact, there may be signs that the child has a psychopathic personality by the age of 2 according to Leyton, a Forensic psychiatrist in 1987. 42% of the convicted were physically abused as children while 74% of them suffered from psychological abuse. Sexual abuse is also prominent within these murderers. This may imply that killers such as David Berkowitz, Ed Kemper and Joel Rifkin did not receive the proper attention they needed throughout their crucial development stage. They became socially inept and unable to belong in the world they are living. In result of their deprived care, they do these killings in order for them to cope up from the trauma and seek revenge. For others, they use it as an one night stand to relieve themselves from loneliness. However, 30% of them are also linked to head trauma specifically an impact in the frontal lobe of the brain which affects the sexual desires and thinking that made them do horrific acts. Example of this are Gerald Stano who raped and murdered 40 women in San Quentin and Richard Starette in Georgia of which he killed and raped 10 women after a head trauma which resulted to a swift change with his personality.
Serial killers are still a mystery to the human race. Are they still living in this century? Or are there new breed of serial killers in this generation that we are not aware of? One thing is for sure, there are still evil people lurking somewhere so be careful.
Freedom During Hard Times
There are two kinds of people in this world; those who believe and those who aren’t. But what is exactly we believe to? Just simply believe in yourself, the people around you and most especially to the God from up above. But in order for us to achieve this we must be free and open. Like a bird flying in the sky or a fish swimming in the ocean and a worm crawling into the ground. Freedom comes in different ways a person can explain. It may be independence or having the ability to do things without stopping you. Some talk about freedom in a political sense, some talks about social freedom and some define it as a religious freedom. But the fact that everyone wants to be free, holds true in all cases.
Last year and up until now, the pandemic has had a massive impact in our lives. It affected us most especially in our freedom. We were advised to stay at home for more than three months and that stopped us from communicating physically and doing things socially. It hindered us to do the things the way we want it to be but to abide by the situation and adjust to the catastrophe that is happening to us. It came to a point that teenagers like me were not allowed to go outside because it is in the rule. This prevented us to do such activities that we planned beforehand like a bird in its cage, restricted and was not able to fly across the sky. Humans have an amusing system that allowed us to make use of the time and make the best out of it believing we could things that are valid, and are as much exciting to the activities we planned and this is the freedom within ourselves to let our mind, body and soul to adjust in the situation. We adjusted to the cage that we were in but some did not. We were all affected mentally, emotional and physically. Freedom is the choice to live one’s life doing what one wants, live where one wants, eat by own choice and learn what one’s heart desires. This means that freedom can apply to different aspects of life and freedom is not an absolute term. Although we were deprived of it in some moments in our life, choices that were made during the pandemic is the freedom that we took advantage for.
I believe that believing in ourselves first will help us to practice our freedom within ourselves during the hard times. We can start by small changes and eventually it will result to a better outcome. It may seem that the pandemic has hindered us to do the things what we originally wanted but it didn’t, it just showed a different perspective of embracing a change with the plan. It showed that we are resilient and perseverance is a natural characteristic of a person and our freedom was not taken from us.
Addressing Gender Equality In Modern World
In the current status quo, the issue of gender inequality in workplaces has been one of the prominent topics on discourse or even in day to day conversations. Despite decades of progressive efforts into emerging a transition for the better, there are still issues of unequal treatment from men and women. But what really does causes inequality in employment, the modern business world, or even in your own workplace?
We cannot deny the fact that this topic is still one of the leading topics especially in the business world. According to *Lumen Learning* gender inequality refers to unequal treatment or perceptions of individuals based on their gender. Gender systems are often dichotomous and hierarchical; gender binary systems may reflect the inequalities that manifest in numerous dimensions of daily life. Gender inequality stems from distinctions, whether empirically grounded or socially constructed. In workplaces, an employee, a female, may receive a different pay from the other gender, male. A poll by *Catalyst* in 2019 found that globally, women earn 16% less in average hourly wages and 22% less in median monthly wages, with large variations between countries. Female workers often times do not get chances for promotions, consideration of needs and let us all not forget the sexual harassment these female workers have experienced. We should also take note that only women experiences harassment but also in men which usually does not have reports to it, either way it is still considered as unfair treatment to workers. It is very clear that gender inequality is still one of the problems the human kind should solve.
According to Robert Grant, recruiters are key to gender solution. Indeed, the recruiters have a huge impact on lessening or even solving the unequal treatment of employees. These people are key for a better community if and only if they do not possess these traits; unfavorable recruitment strategy, holding sexist views and bias. These traits directly leads into manipulation of power that causes inequality among the workers. It’s important to stay vigilant and have clear policies on how you expect your employees, especially the recruiter, to behave in around your working environment.
Diversity in working environment will eventually effect a good change against gender discrepancies. By having workers, both men and women with comfortable workspace leads to better results in terms of productiveness and efficiency. Of course, it is critical to classify what works best for the workers and it is the recruiters job to put them into where would they fit the most based on their skills and not on their gender identity. Practicing open communication and trainings between the employees and proper human resource management will certainly be a great impact into the problem.
Gender bias is pervasive at work and in organizations, creating inequalities at every stage of the employment cycle. Gender-based stereotypes affect which candidates get recruited for certain roles and which do not, which candidates get selected for those roles and why, how salaries are negotiated, how managers provide feedback to their employees, and which employees receive career development opportunities and career encouragement and which do not. It is important to keep in mind that we can avoid this gender biases by starting into investing a good recruiter with a great eye that are keen for workers without stereotyping which causes into solving the gender inequality in the modern business world.
BOOK SERIES: A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara
Hello Read Cash, it's been a long time since I have been active in this platform because of various reasons you are likely not interested with. Since I am back, I decided to do a special little series of which the articles would be all about book recommendation and the likes. So let's get into business!
In this article I am talking about the book "A little Life" by Hanya Yanagihara. This book has been in my recommendations because of its ability to make the readers cry and of course, for its accomplishments which it won the Kirkus prize, a National Book award finalist and a Man Booker Prize Finalist despite its lengthy story. The novel follows about four college boys thriving into the real world in New York City making a name and chase big careers, but its most specially focused on the protagonist named Jude who has a mysterious past full of trauma, abuse and unexplained health issues. This may seem to be a mystery thriller description of the character but it will surely move you and give you deep perception of yourself and life in general. The book will give you a roller coaster ride of emotions. It can drive you mad, sad, anxious, consume you and may even take over life if you don't have the right and stable mental capability. A lot of people in Tiktok (which where I got the recommendation) also gave some warnings because of how devastating the book to you when you read it. Since it was released in the 21st century, this gained a lot of audiences which resulted to high rate of sales.
A little Life is divided into seven parts of which are chronologically arranged with flashbacks of the four college boys frequently interspersed throughout the novel. The narrative also shifted throughout the progression of the story which in my opinion made it more interesting and made me to read more. It then gradually shifts into focus towards Jude to when it molded entirely around each character's with Jude and then into Jude himself. I personally liked the author's way of writing because I can relate to it. It has this modern feels and it really resonates with what is happening in the real world. It tackles about anxiety, depression and self-destruction because of Jude's unfortunate past which is the main problem of why and how he is not able to open up to the people around him. Reading the book took me almost a month since I struggled with my online classes and most importantly how it broke me with each part of the book. I felt emotions like I was really in the book sympathizing to the main character. I was angry at how he does not help himself which also questioned me that if ever I am in his situation will I make it through? And when that struck, it made me frustrated and sad because I cannot do anything. To quote from the book, "There are two people in world and those are who believe and those who doesn't" and in Jude's case he did not.
I am back with a bang read cash here I come.
One rainy Tuesday
It is already quarter to five in the afternoon when I woke up from a nap. Our dog, sunny, sleeping next to my feet giving me warmth because of her fur over me. Clouds were heavy and it decided to pour rain upon the earth, blessing and nurturing the plants.
Pluviophile. A person who loves rain, and I must say my heart was very happy when I woke up. My soul was delighted by the sound of the rain and the after effect of rain on the surroundings. I got up and cooked some toasted bread because I was hungry. I was about to make myself an iced coffee but decided not to because I don't want any palpitations later on.
"Ting" the toaster rang as the bread is cooked and ready to eat. I put some margarine and sugar in it to make it more tasty and ate it watching the pouring rain outside my window. The scenario made me realize that we should appreciate simple things and learn to love every little thing as it results to contentment and peace of mind especially in this time of uncertainty. May God bless us all :)
Uncertainty
We are currently experiencing a catastrophe we have never expected. People dying, killing and protesting for rights in the time of pandemic which causes the cases to increase. Day by day, hundreds, no, thousands of people from all around the world are getting infected and the risk increases resulting to expose the vulnerability of the people, getting scared by the phenomenon we are facing, it it not only our physical health that is risk but most especially our mental health.
The uncertainty of having to live the next day, the anxieties, worries, and depression comes up to you especially when you are a person in need of constant distractions to battle the things your mind does. According to a study, most of the people diagnosed with depression has been experiencing more frequent anxiety attacks compared to their life before the pandemic has happened. I, personally also worry from time to time if we are gonna able to be back on our "normal" before and things would go to being okay.
Because of this worries and attacks, I am in need of constant distractions and that is by reading books, surfing the net and even playing with our dog. I know it's hard to think positive in this time of uncertainty, but to practice optimism and peace of mind certainly helps to improve your mental health in this time of pandemic.
A journey I never thought I would conquer
It was around 9 pm when my sister and I was just sitting in the couch talking about life and the things we used to do before. We were sharing thoughts and suddenly, we came across the idea of earning money. Since we cannot go outside because of the pandemic, the thought of risking our lives for work encouraged us to think of other ways to earn money.
My sister suggested that we can earn money through online by just reading, commenting and writing just my thoughts to a community full of wholesome and colorful minds, read.cash. I am new here, and very excited to share my thoughts and feelings to all of you guys. I am stoked to type and read all your ideas. God bless us all :)
