30,000 euro needed.

I talk about euros not dollars.

It's 30K euros you need per child to be safe.

It's a headline in today's newspaper and before I read the article I said to my child: "It's easy anyone can do that".

"By not saving on a bank account?"

How come we ended up in a world where the government states each child is born with 100k debts, having children is for the rich only and no longer caring parents count but the bank account does?

Dutch people were raised to save. First, it's "pay your bills", next save and what is left is for buying food and some extras. Savings are needed for everything this includes paying all kinds of taxes. People save for their funeral, health insurance, retirement, and to be able to raise children.

The amount of house owners is smaller than those who rent.

You need money to be able to buy it. You even need money to be able to get a loan from the bank next to a job. No way you get a credit card if you are jobless and/or have debts. You are registered and if you want to buy something online the seller can have a look at your bank account (no, you can not have a look at the seller's account if he is a scam you are not protected).

If you think money doesn't make happy you will soon learn it does if you live in a society where everything has it's the price and where you need to pay the price asked! You can not bargain about it. The street is the place where you can live if you don't pay your rent or debts.

There was a time the nation was proud of its education system. School for boys and girls, same chances, same rights. The law made it possible just like visiting school till the age of 18 (exception if you have at least your high school diploma).

Everyone could study which means most did even if it took 14 years because ten years were wasted by partying without even opening a book. Those good days are over. No, it's not because of the Coronavirus but because of bad management.

Government, organizations wasted money, did bad investments, and lost what their customers saved for (the retirement for example). Suddenly insurance companies were close to bankruptcy (they invested in Soccer clubs, green energy, wasted money on advertising and rewarded themselves with bonuses the common man can only dream of).

The economical crises became a fact and although the government knew it's because of the wasteful spending they kept telling people to keep spending and using their... savings. Many did and now they regret because the economical crisis didn't end, the savings are gone, the retirement fund is broke and all those years of working and saving turned out to be a waste of time and good money. The time they could have enjoyed spending their money the way they liked most since you only live ones.

Do you need 30k euros per child?

No, you need way more. According to experts a child in the Netherlands will cost a parent 100k a year. The NIBUD (National Institute for Budgets) can tell you all about it. They tell you exactly how you should spend your money!/How much you need for yourself, food, clothes, shoes, your child, pocket money, education, etc, etc.

Those 30k euros stand for a small amount you can give your child a hand with if it starts it's the life into adulthood, if it goes to University for example, and needs a room in a student home and food. With that amount you are not paying for all the expenses but only a part of it. The young adult still needs to find a job, it needs work next to its study to pay for the rest of the expenses. Most likely it has to pay off a loan for 35 years as well once it starts working. Free scholarships do not exist.

How to save 30,000 euros for each child of yours you might ask?

Not by saving in a stocking underneath your mattress but by simply not having children or do like my father did. Kick them out on the street and tell them if they are lucky they inherit your old slippers.

I would not have start with children again. That is what I know for sure. My children do have a hard life, hardly any future, are not understood because of their intelligence and different interests. They deserved better. To me alone the money is sufficient. I don't need tv, a fridge, to get drunk or use drugs to have a good life. Writing, water, some fruit and chocolate is enough. 😁

Complicated, who placed a value of 30000 EUR on a child? A child is more worth than that, and we don't count the cost of raising a child, we raised them and we are not poorer. Children are blessings, and having the numbers you can take care of is a great blessing too
