Every May 12th is celebrated the International Nurses Day, and in Virtual Variety we want to talk about who this day is celebrated by. In the year 1820 was born in Florence, a woman who without thinking or wanting to change the world, with her actions, thoughts and projects. Florence Nightingale was an English nurse, and a pioneer in modern professional nursing, taking into account that at that time, nursing was a very rudimentary profession, which failed to help as it should.

Florence came from a very wealthy family, she decided to leave behind that world surrounded by luxury, to become independent, and seek her vocation, she confronted her family for it, and especially some backward social thoughts, where women were only for the home, in 1844 Florence understood that she was destined to be a nurse. In 1853, thanks to her hard work, she was promoted to be Supervisor of Nurses of a Charity Hospital in London, in which she managed to create an innovative technical and organizational system; thanks to her work, the conventional method of care that consisted of idolizing religious figures and waiting for a miracle to happen to save each patient was changed and replaced by a scientific method, which required better preparation of nursing staff.

In 1854 and 1856, she became famous thanks to the nursing service she provided for the British soldiers in the Crimean War, thanks to this, she achieved sanitary improvements to the medical care of the soldiers, because they were treated with very few resources, however that did not stop her to demonstrate her skills and vocation, thanks to her work in this war, she earned the name of "The lady of the lamp". When she returned to England, she obtained an overwhelming fame, which she took advantage of to meet with the high spheres, and try to improve the health system, so much was her fame, that she managed to meet with Queen Victoria I, she managed to write a report, entitled: "Notes on health, efficiency and hospital administration in the British army", thanks to her hard work, she achieved what everyone thought impossible, the British military health, the progressive extension of its model to civilian health, the introduction of health reforms in India and the creation of a School of Nurses (1860).

In 1861 the famous Nurse Florence Nightingale, retired from her work, due to health problems, due to her great efforts when she was giving sanitary support in the Crimean War, in 1910 she unfortunately died in London, however, despite her death, today she is still more alive than ever, In the memory of all those people who admire and respect this noble profession, her work was so great that it inspired many people, including the creator of the Red Cross, among others, foreign leaders contacted her during her lifetime, so that she could guide and help them to improve their health systems.
