With the arrival of this pandemic world poverty was once again a topic of debate, and we cannot deny that there are a large number of people in these advanced times, in extreme poverty, but what is poverty?. The word poverty means not having access to basic goods and services, not being able to afford food, clothing, or basic products; personal hygiene, among others. According to the UN (United Nations Organization), there are more than 3.4 billion people in the world living in poverty, and it is expected that the numbers will increase with the arrival of Covid-19. However, dear readers, we must clarify an enormous difference between economic poverty, which is what we are talking about in this first text, and mental poverty.

What is mental poverty?

Even though it has no basic concept or definition, let's say that mental poverty is when an individual maintains a negative attitude and thoughts, and instead of improving his reality, prefers to blame someone else for his ills, and settle for what little or nothing he has. Sometimes we think that our economic problems are the fault of the country's situation, of the bad economic management of our rulers, or simply of the world crisis, maybe we are right, or maybe not, but it is there where we must act as rational, thinking beings, with multiple intelligences, and different ways of thinking, to look for a solution to the situation for which we are thinking, but sometimes we prefer to take this attitude:

  • Blaming others - It's easier to sit at home, see what's going wrong and complain about what's happening, to blame even God himself, for our reality, but we forget that no matter how difficult the picture looks, there will always be some way to fix it.

  • Waiting for a miracle - How many would not love their life to be like a soap opera or some movie, where the protagonist miraculously inherits a fortune, or wins the lottery, unfortunately, in real life, it is difficult for that to happen, if we do nothing to improve our reality, years will go by, and the miracle will never happen.

  • Overestimating Work and Study - How many times have we not heard in our homes or on the street a very horrible phrase: "If you don't study, you will be nobody", How does not having a degree make me nobody? That's a big mistake, first of all, since we are born we know what we are, human beings, rational, intelligent and capable beings, secondly, having a degree doesn't open the doors of heaven itself, it helps, of course it does, however we can't limit ourselves to just a degree, just a job, and today we see the consequences, how many professional people, without a job, Because a virus arrived, and in a matter of months, it managed to make thousands of companies declare bankruptcy, we have to understand that the secret is to keep ourselves in constant learning, to know a little bit about everything, to have more than one source of income, not to stagnate at the university degree, because we know about people who have even a Doctorate, and do not even know the national anthem of their country.

  • To obtain the Success and not to value it - It happens many times, that you obtain what you wanted, your social and economic situation, improves very much, nevertheless you continue with that pessimistic, toxic thought, you do not think to future, you do not see beyond your mind, you close, and you continue thinking the same or worse than when you did not have anything, and pitifully nothing is for always, what you obtained, in a short time, as I arrive, thus it is gone again, and you return to be where you were, and which is your solution? to go back to complaining about life, about the world, and hope for another miracle.

Sometimes we want to change the world, but we forget to change ourselves, our thoughts, and we do not realize that we are our own enemies, and we take that mental poverty to extremes, because if we do not change that way of thinking, of seeing the world, so we get, what we get, we will not be satisfied, and we will lose everything, economic poverty, it ends when you start generating income, and improving your quality of life, but the mental one, if you win the lottery, and inherit the company of Amazon, you will still be dissatisfied, and complaining because you now have so much money, and you do not know what to do with it, which was better when you had nothing, Ignorance and mental Poverty, are some of the worst evils in the world.
