Prediction: it's almost a certainty a Big Five giant will release a cryptocurrency just so they'll cover the grounds in a government-protectionist sort of way before an open-source solution would gets the chance to become popular.

Even if your prediction is realistic. I don't think so many people will support this kind of project. Who will want these cryptocurrencies? Maybe those who are not in cryptos yet. Yes. For further: Anyway, at some point, governments will release cryptos to control all the money, all you are doing with it, etc. Including blocking your money if you not a "good slave".
Fiat currency is just an outdated version of crypto. I look for governments to adopt xrp protocol
Note that I'm not against the fact one day all FIAT will be replaced by cryptocurrencies, That's the future anyway, it seems to me. :0)
You mean the protocol, not the currency? Many governments already are working on digital versions for their currencies.
"Big Five" ? government? Or Visa or Big banks or... Regardless, IMO it will not matter. The people of the world will gravitate towards non-inflationary assets for wealth storage and wallets will seamlessly transition any currency you hold into any currency you need to make a vendor happy. You will be able to pay your WeChat, IPay, Visa, ... balances with crypto. (most any crypto) and no one will even need to know how it is happening.
The people always choose the convenient route which is also the path paved for them by people in power... I doubt there will be a way for wide adoption without a serious technological breakthrough in cryptocurrencies (scalability, privacy, security, etc...). It's the same obstacle as in changing politics (why can't we all just get along?..).
Research xrp, western union saudia Arabia...etc we will have wide adoption. We are already seeing it...

I mostly agree. That said, BCH can become convenient and I consider scaling a necessity for moving forward with mass adoption. If we survive the infighting and do the scaling development work I see no real obstacle as tough as changing political beliefs. I think it is more like letting people in on a secret they want to know about. One that can make them more free and wealthy if all goes as hoped.
