Let Them Be Bored I often hear my kids complaining and saying "I'm bored, Mommy." And I was like, they have so many toys, gadgets and we have a big garden that they can play and run about. How can they be bored? I remember when I was a child, we don't have time to get bored. There are loads to do! And if you say you are bored, your parents might give you unwanted chores like a pan as black as a coal and will tell you to scrub it till it turns white. We don't have phones or internet those days and we are always out playing with our neighbours or with our siblings. We entertain ourselves when we are bored. Our parents don't entertain us. We don't have Google back then, if we have homework we have to go to the library and patiently search for the answer, page by page. I remember when I was a child if it's raining outside and I can't go out I always thinking of God and who made God and who's the one who made God until I give up thinking. And some days I will be daydreaming of having a truck full of money and planning what will I buy first. And I enjoy it, you know! But this generation is afraid of boredom. They need to get entertained all the time. When they don't have data or wifi, they feel like that's the only entertainment they have. Parents keep filling their boredom and not letting them be bored and get creative. What I'm saying is, ***let them be bored! Let their unconscious mind be conscious. Let them experiment. Let them discover themselves and what can satisfy their boredom. Sometimes we just have to let them be.*** Boredom leads to Creativity A bored mind develops the ability to be creative and this is the number one benefit of boredom. Because when you are bored you pushing yourself to be satisfied and so you get creative and do things you don't normally do. You experiment and you discover a new hobby and say, Oh I love doing this! Boredom helps develop their sense of Identity Over-scheduling our kids is unnecessary and this will hinder them from discovering what truly interests them. Remember when they are bored, we should not fill their time with what we want but let them explore and learn new things that they don't usually do when they are occupied. My 5 years old daughter, Tia learn to bake cookies when she was bored and she loves it. And also making a jelly. So instead of me buying ready to eat jelly for Tia, I buy one that she will make and let her pick what flavour. At her age, I want her to try different things. I guide her on exploring stuff that she might be interested in. So here's my Tia while being bored, Tia baking cookies
Tia making jelly
And my son who is 10, loves to learn football and love riding his bike when he is bored in the house.
When he was bored he started going to the cricket club and start training. Also on his boredom, he started going to the skate park and ask us for a stunt scooter. I'm worried about his safety because I know how he can easily break his neck with it. But I have to let him have the freedom to know what he truly wants with guidance from us. I encourage outdoor plays for the kids instead of with their phones or gadgets. We love to have a ride in the bike in the lane which we all enjoy. I always believe that outdoor play is the best way for kids to learn and enjoy.
Or when they helping me to tidy up the place or garden. Let them get their hands dirty. Teach them and give them a little work. Mum always says that won't do them any harm.
So when they get bored they get to learn something. They discover a new interest. They developed their common sense and logic. They experience the world first hand and learn to engage in problem-solving. And that's what we parents are for! ***Our role is to prepare our children to take their place in society. Let the children fill up their boredom. Let them do this for themselves. Let us be their guide.*** Thank you for reading.

This is so true. I have nephews who always says it's so boring when they don't have internet or data. I don't have kids yet though I badly want one or two. 😅☺️ Reading this article gave me an insight on how I can manage kids when they're bored. -and I accidentally tipped $1. 😅😅😅 Thats okay. Hahaha
No, that's not okay bhe. You work hard for that dollar I will feel bad. It happened to me as well and tipped $5 what is supposedly .05 😅 so I can understand. Let me give it back to you. And no worries! 😘
Hala.. thanks tiredmomma!! Yan, for real na. 😅☺️
❤❤❤
Mukhang magiging tagaluto pa yung anak mong babae ate in the future ah 🤣
Ay tinetrain ko na ng hindi tamad paglaki. Si kuya nya rin, pinagpiprito ko na ng itlog para matuto. 😅
Oh man! That fits my bio! Haha indeed, a person who is bored is boring! When one's can't do anything about their boredom and can't even entertain themselves! Well you have a very nice way of making your child grow! They will grow up nicely.
Oh Meyzee, I don't really want them to grow up being lazy and just do as they're told. I want them to think for themselves. Like I'm bored, I'll do something worthwhile.
This is so true, Momma. We found a way to get ourselves entertained even with so little and now with all the gadgets and internet, they need to develop the ability to be creative. I once said something that we need to stop saying 'Let's create a better world for our children' even though it is a nice thing to do, but I would rather want us to 'Leave better children for our world' so they can grow up being a problem solver. I have issues when children are asked 'What do you want to become in life'. I would rather we ask them 'What problem do you want to solve?' This shifts their thinking from trying to fit in, to trying to make a difference. I feel you on that, Momma. I love it....let them be bored, it would help them think fast and be creative.
"I have issues when children are asked 'What do you want to become in life. I would rather we ask them 'What problem do you want to solve?' This shifts their thinking from trying to fit in, to trying to make a difference." That gave me some time to think. I should ask my kids that question. A good point to ponder as simply asking them what they want to be when they grow up only requires an answer not an imaginative mind. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you, Momma. I am glad this helps.
I feel them. There are days when I just feel oddly bored though in reality I have a lot of stuffs to do. Maybe I'm just bored about doing the same things over and over again. Well, you have an awesome parenting skills there for making them do something worthwhile to ease their boredom :)
Exactly. Me too. When you do things over and over it makes you bored. But you still have to do it. That's why I keep eating 😂 I have to keep them learning because I don't want them to grow up with lazybones.
Entrepreneur at 13.. Ang galing na magbake kahit sa murang edad..
Madam, sabay siguro kami mag aral magbake. Di kasi ako marunong pa, follow tutorials lang. Nakakatuwa din pag masarap nabake pero pag hindi Tia says "Its not nice mommy."😅
🤣 so sabay na kayo mag aral 🤣
Boredom translates into creativity talaga madam. The mind always finds a way to be creative and get things done simultaneously. 😅
Ganyan ba tayo pag bored? 😂😂😂 Nope. When Im bored, I can always think of eating. 🤣🤣🤣 Then I forgot I can't be bored because I have loads to do. Haha
Kaloka ka madam. Hahaha. Pero legit naman, pag bored ay equivalent nyan ay gutom.
Kung pede ko lang share ang bilbil ko madam🤣
Ohh..i like your place. The kids can enjoy whatever they want. Just like us before..doing all the stuff like climbing up those "tambis and chicos tree". So now I really wanted to have a place of our own with a space outside the side for my kids to play around since we are still renting. It is getting more high to get a smart place nowadays in the Philippines. So need to find more earning ways to reach for that dream.
Oh, I know. Lucky enough we have a place for the kids to run about when the pandemic hits that they can't go anywhere else. A good space will be ideal for kids and may the Almighty God makes your dreams come true.
Thank you so much @tired_momma.. I claim it. God has better plans for us and soon our dreams will come true. Keep safe and God bless you and your family. Keep inspiring.😊
I can relate to the part about our parents giving us more chores when we complain of boredom. My mum did that to me close to 3 times until I realised it's a taboo to say I'm bored🤣 . She will ask me to go to our neighbour's house to collect "Arodan" I didn't know the meaning, but I will hastening go to the neighbour's house. But on getting there our neighbour will keep on sending me on one errand or the other , after I'm done she will say she isn't with the "Arodan" that it's with another neighbour, I will keep on going from one neighbour's house to another running errands until I get tired and go home to tell my mum I didn't get the "Arodan" . By this time I'm already tired and worn out to even complain of boredom . It happened the second time but the third time she asked me to go for it I got to the Neighbour's house and as usual she sent me on an errand,. Instead of going I ran away. My brother later explained to me that there's nothing like "Arodan". That it's just a secret Code/way of saying "This child is disturbing me ,please help me keep him busy" 😪
Hahaha, what a great story to share lol. I'm glad to hear about your experience. They were really good on those days keeping us busy and saying you are bored is a No NO. 😅
Exactly, let them be bored. In being bored they will learn new things. They will learn to be independent and also useful for themselves. There are lots of games we did when we are younger that these kids do not even have the liver for. You are a good parent, ensuring their bored moments is used wisely and productively. May God keep them for you.
Oh dear, I used to entertain them all the time keeping them busy with different things but boredom was created to allow people to explore more. I love to start them getting imaginative at a young age. Welcome again to the platform, please to meet you. Cheers!
Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to more of your posts too.
You're tired momma because you're a super momma! Great job and those are really cool and healthy way to make use of time with the kids..
Thank you Lyca, I'm trying. I keep watching parenting videos and reading to help me guide my kids better.
Di ako maka relate, ayaw ko mag aanak madam 😵
Mag anak pero huwag muna pag sawa ka na sa buhay dalaga kasi hindi madaling ang buhay may pamilya kailangang ready ka! 🥰
Wow! This gave me a new perception of getting bored. And everything you said are right! Let them be bored, indeed! :)
We can't entertain them all the time. So better let them explore. Do you have kids?
I used to get bored easily too.😅 But soon realized na kailangan ko pa lang matuto din sa buhay.. This reminds me of this saying, "Learn to move, Move to Learn." Thank you po.. anyways, ang cu.cute nilang tingnan, yung mga junakis niyo po.. Happy Family..🤗❤️
this is how i ended up learning arts in the first place 😂😂😂 since then i never had a bored moment as long as i have pens and paper
Well written and creative, sometimes its always about chances, finding every wrong in a mistake. Allowing new ways and system for kids to be creative, letting them learn new ways.
