Students are not really learning. They are just coming to online classes, passing all of the requirements like quizzes and assignments and making the activities just for the sake of passing the subjects. Most students are bothered on being left behind that's why even if it hurts within them, they signed up in this school year.

I have wrote two sides of the stories or opinions about this years online class in behalf of all Filipinos and to other countries who experience the same.

What I am about to write now is the ongoing scream about Academic Freeze.

For those who are wondering about what does it mean, it means that students and some teachers want to stop the ongoing classes for the sake of many reasons. These reasons are most likely inspired by true events because I have seen many posts on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter that talks about the rants of many people.

The one that really bothered me is the fact that some students committed suicide because they can't enroll in this school year. I felt the sadness and depression on them since I also know the feeling of being in the last line when it comes to studying. The idea of not being able to get into your next year or grade and seeing other people study while you can't do anything but to accept and watch is very difficult.

I saw one post earlier today about his 21-year-old kid who committed suicide because he can't enroll due to low financial status and the lack of ability to buy the things he need like a laptop and a phone. In our academic status, students were asked to how they want to continue and study during this school year. Most requested to be given the certain modules since they can't afford the gadgets for online class. At first, everything went well. They were given handouts and papers for them to study. But then, they were asked to join online classes because they have online quizzes.

It's not that they don't want to do it, but they can't.

When you can't afford a postpaid plan for your phone or a WiFi connection in your home or both, you will have a hard time attending online classes. There are two reasons actually. One is that you will be forced to buy load so that you can able to connect to the internet. The fact that the amount that should be used into other more important stuff was spent into classes is so hard to accept. Not because school is not important, but because there are more important things than that. The second one is the connection. Most Filipinos don't have the connection same with those who can afford a 300mbps internet connection or maybe the ones who are living in the United States or other first world countries. I have seen most of my classmates struggle, especially when they are called for attendance checking and when quizzes can only answered within a certain amount of time.

I don't mean to call out all of the teachers since they are doing their jobs, but please try to understand our side. I have seen a video on Facebook that is about two professors who I really want to point out. I forgot their names but for the sake of their privacy and still, as a respect on them, I thank God for forgetting their names.

The first professor explained on a case of "Rape". An incest "rape" since the predator involved is the victim's father. If you're a woman or a mother, even if you don't have a daughter, only sons, you have and should understand the feeling of your daughter getting molested and would react and do the right thing to build the justice your daughter needs. This professor is a woman by the way. I had a hard time listening to the video but I managed to finish it even though I want to punch the screen of my phone as the same feeling of punching that old woman's face. I am so sorry but if you elders want to gain respect from us younger ones, then you should respect us too. Same thing with girls who want to be respected, respect men unless they are not respectable.

So the video went like this, the woman or professor said that "Even though your father molested you, you should go home and still pay respect on him since he is your father."

Clearly, this woman doesn't know what she's talking about. I mean like, why in the world would you say that to a girl? Why would you give such pathetic advice? Can you even hear yourself?

This is why I judge people on what they do. Even if they go to charities or the CEO of a billion dollar company. If they have that thinking, they are worse than Satan.

Let's go to the other video since I don't want to say insults and still be a "good girl".

The second video is about a male professor. He sounds like he's reading a Google meet comment about a student who said that one of his classmates were not able to join since he can't afford the load for a while. I was hoping for a little encouragement or like a "It's okay.". But I didn't got that. The professor said, "If you can't afford it, then why in the world did you enroll?"

I went completely blank when I heard this one. He's a professor. Have a little respect and understanding to what your students are experiencing. Not all of us are rich or have those gadgets so we can keep up with the lessons and classes.

What can you say about these two professors? What are your takes on Academic Freeze?

I have seen the video of that professor who told his student to climb up in a coconut tree to be able to get signal. I totally agree in academic freeze.

Me too, professors like that should know how hard it is for students to experience poor signal. We all want to learn and study but life is not fair on us.
