(A review based on the K-drama Alice 2020)

Quick Plot

The story started by the establishment of Alice. It was like an agency where time travelling is possible by the means of a time card. The time travelers of the future year 2050 can go back to the time that they missed and wanted to visit. It is like a way to “heal the past” that they have experienced or if they can’t move on. There are also certain rules to follow and even if you go back, you can’t change your past. Then, a rumored book of prophecy appeared and predicted the details of how time travel will come to an end.  To confirm the prophecy, the two couple travelers (Tae Yi and Min Hyuk) goes back to the year 1992 to get the book. Upon their mission, Tae Yi realized that she was pregnant. Travelling back to their current year was a dangerous thing for the baby and has a tendency not to survive. To protect her child, she decided to stay in the year 1992 leaving his lover Min Hyuk on their mission and changed her name into Sun Young. She raises their child Park Jin Gyeom that has an alexithymia or lack of emotions or expressions. In 2010, she was murdered, leaving his son alone. Jin Gyeom was raised by a police officer which also later on, became a detective. Upon investigating his mother’s death, he accidentally met a physics professor named Yoon Tae Yi which exactly looks like his mother. His curiosity leads to his discovery of Alice, what’s his connection to the prophecy, how he can time travel and many more. (watch the k-drama for full details)

Realizations

Upon watching how the story flows, I also tend to asked myself if it ever exists today OR maybe in the future times? I don’t know but I’m really curious about it. Taking a dig deeper, the concept about time travelling and time machine all started in Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity. I guess almost all of us are already familiar with that theory. Back in our grade school or junior high school years, we are taught about a glimpse of the theory about the connection of time and space.

As what we all know, time is considered as a 4th dimension. Based on the perspective of physics, space time is really a four dimensional. Upon reading some articles and studies, they say that there is a POSSIBILITY to travel in some certain relativity space time. But in order to do that, one must travel faster than the speed of light. Well, basically light speed is the measurement used in the space. Based on an experiment using a flashlight, light travels in a blink of an eye. That’s so fast! It would really be impossible for humans to do that. Unless human could invent a time machine or any equipment.

What Ifs

Now talking about my what ifs, I’m really curious what if time machine was invented today. Imagine humans in today’s time can travel in the past or in the future if they want to. Just like in the k-drama Alice, people can travel in the past but in another dimension. Hmm, sounds interesting huh. Let me just talk about the parallel universe thingy in the Alice. The concept of time travelling in the series is that, you can travel in a particular dimension and there is a parallel you that is living in there. I’m so amazed by that idea. The thought of having a parallel you in another dimension is a question to everyone. I’ve search for some evidences about it, but unfortunately there is no scientific basis for that ad only a mere speculation. But if you’re going to ask me about that, having different galaxies out there in space would be somehow possible. Just like what everyone says, there is more to discover in the space. Who knows maybe in the coming years and more, we’ll find the answers that we’re looking for.
