Rebirth: From Sales Assistant to Crypto Whale

Chapter 5: Let’s sell it for fifteen pesos per piece!

Stephen woke up early in the morning, afraid that his mother would forget to leave his money. He quickly washed his face downstairs.

“Sj!”

As he was wiping his face, his mother called her from behind.

When he looked back, he saw her wrapped in a towel. She had just finished taking a bath.

“Yes, Ma?”

“Aren’t you too excited? Don’t worry, I plan to leave the money to your Papa.” Mama Arlene hurriedly said after realizing that his son woke up very early because he was afraid that she would forget about the money!

Scratching his head, he smiled in embarrassment and quickly defended, “Of course not, from now on I plan to do a morning exercise regularly.”

 “Alright, but don’t overwork yourself, you have just recovered.”

She chuckled at her son’s reply and nodded in understanding. She couldn’t help but feel that his son looked a little cuter today. Although she felt that her son changed since yesterday, she didn’t mind and liked it. Anyway, he had turned twelve years old already and was a qualified teenager. To her, the change is only natural.

Stephen quickly walked to the front yard with a red face. He is like an open book in front of his mother. He felt that being a reincarnator, he should be able to control himself more but this is not the case! Among the reincarnators he knew, he was useless.

“No! I should control my emotions more! Otherwise, when I have millions of money in the future, it will only spell trouble.”

He knows that in this world, being weak and a millionaire in a poor community at the same time is a sin. With the crab mentality of Filipinos, they will pull you down. If not, others would covet your money and try all possible situations to take advantage of you or worse suck you dry.

While he was in deep thought while doing simple and basic exercises, his mother had just finished her preparations and was ready to go to work. She called out when she saw his son too focused on his exercise.

“Sj, that’s enough already. Come here!”

Quickly regaining his senses back when she heard his mother’s voice, Stephen walked towards her.

Mama Arlene pats her son’s head, then she pulls up and hands the money to her son. “Here, I know you are too excited about this. We respect your decision but always remember that we are still capable. If you need money that much, we will try our best to get it for you. So, don’t overwork yourself. You have just become a teenager, you have to learn to be happy and enjoy every moment you can at this stage. Lest you regret it in the future.”

At this point, Mama Arlene could not help but remind her son a little more. She didn’t want him to experience what she had in the past. She didn’t have the luxury to enjoy life as a teenager but rather spent most of her time in the fields to help her parents earn money.

When he heard his mother, his heart warmed. Then suddenly the corner of his mouth quirked up, “Of course, Ma! I am doing this to exactly enjoy my teenage life. It is hard to explain at this moment but you will surely understand in the future.”

Hearing her son’s reply, she felt relieved. At least, he knows what he is doing. She quickly waved goodbye at him and got on the motorcycle with Papa Steph driving.

When he could no longer see his parents’ back, Stephen did not dilly dally anymore and quickly walked upstairs to eat breakfast so that when his father was back, they could immediately go to the market to buy the ingredients for Magnum Ice Candy.

Today is market day in the municipality of Barotac Nuevo and it is usually the busiest day in the market. Small farmers can be seen anywhere selling their harvest and sometimes Atis selling broomsticks and some unfamiliar products to drive away evil.  

At this moment, Stephen is wearing his usual loungewear, winding through the busy crowd, and looking for Santimar Store. A store he frequented by the year 2021, but at that time the market was done renovating so he didn’t know their old place.

Finally, he saw it, who knew how long it took him to find it. Walking towards it, he quickly spotted the owner and he smiled brightly before saying, “Manang, I’d like to buy three cans of Angel evaporated milk and condensed milk, four packs of flat-tops, ….”

Stephen called out all the ingredients in one go. Moments later, everything that he ordered was laid in from of him. After checking that everything was in the right quantity, he paid the cashier and quickly left.

At home, he let his siblings help me prepare the ingredients. But before the production, he seriously told them many times to never share the ingredients with their playmates, lest they discover the secret magic he was doing to imitate Magnum’s ice cream.

In a tub, he mixed all of the ingredients with water according to the process he remembered. After he was done with it, he and his siblings peeled the flat-tops chocolate, placed three cups of milk from diluted Bear Brand powdered milk in a heated pan then added the flat-tops chocolate. After the chocolate melted, he just waited for a while to get the right texture before letting it cool.

Once they were done with all the preparations, all that was left was packing it in 1 ¾ x 10 plastic wrappers. He told his siblings to place a spoon of melted chocolate in a plastic wrapper first, spread it then gently pour the mixture. He also shared the technique to quickly tie the wrappers using a rope or string.

The trio enjoyed the process and never felt tired. After an hour, Stephen started counting the finished products.

“1,2, 3, … 151, 152!”

Stephen beamed with joy, if he sold this per piece for ten pesos, he would earn one thousand five hundred twenty pesos. This is fivefold of his initial investment. But he knew that this was not enough and was too cheap for this revolutionary product, so he gritted his teeth before finally deciding.

“Alright, let’s sell it for fifteen pesos per piece!”

*Ati – an indigenous group of people of Panay (an island in the Philippines where the MC lives) and could be considered their ancestors

*Manang – a term given to an elder woman or sister who can be either a colleague or part of the family
