Too many walls but not enough bridges

I just want to share this answer from my student on her interpretation about Joseph Fort Newton quotation that says “Men build too many walls and not enought bridges.” I asked permission from her and it is okay. I just want to share it because I was inspired by her answer.

This is her interpretation:“the quotation has a wide array of meaning and it only depends on how a person interpret his own idea about it. My idea is in oir life we may build walls to protect ourselves with other people. You have a fixed and stable mind that walls would be there to protect you from any harm not realizing that you also need a bridge. A bridge would serve as an avenue for you to make a connection. Connection that could widen your horizon, impart knowledge and bring change. A person should realize the importance of connecting with other people. No man is an island. We can make walls but we also need bridges as well. This quote also explains that people build their pride and increase their status but do not give much effort on how to recognize others and connect with them. Build too many walls means selfishness/pride and bridges means acceptance of others opinions.”
