Behavior and Attitude towards Work

What is behavior and attitude? What is your behaviour and attitude towards works? What is the effect of behaviour and attitude in you and your workmates.

Behavior is the way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially towards others while attitude is a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something.

Everyone of us as workers has own behavior, especially at work. The behavior of each worker are based on what position they have in the company they are serve.

There are to types of jobs;

  1. White Collar jobs - highly educated employees with a good jobs based on their chosen carier and profession with a high salary or income. Their not doing a hard labor unlike ordinary workers, they usually use ballpen, paper and computer to work.

  2. Blue collar jobs - employees perform a manual labor that expend energy and work too hard to do and finish assigned task.

Every company has its own department. Since I am working in a property management company, it has the following department.

  • Managerials

  • Accounting

  • Residents Building Engineers

  • Admin/HR

  • Maintenance

  • Security

  • Housekeeping

The first four on the list was included in white collor job, they are the Technical and Property Manager, Accountant, Admin and HR Staff then the Engineers Supervisors. While the last three on the list are included on the blue collar jobs examples are; security guards, house keeping, maintenance as plumber and electrician.


I am employed as Maintenance Supervisor an Engineer to be precise. My jobs is to assist, take action in every concern and complaints by unit owners and tenants in the property where I work with. For me, since I was hired as a maintenance supervisor I can say that my work should only be related to my job. But sometimes as workers I have to do supervision outside maintenance concerns to house keeping personnel due its lack of direct supervisor. I have no problem with that, since it was a direct order from our manager. When i am given a certain task or scope of work, I always make it sure to address and attend to it immediately. I am a person that gives my time and attention to a job assigned to me and take immediate action.

As a supervisor I am having a problem with some of my workmates and subordinates; because sometimes I am given another task that is out of my line by our Manager. It is inevitable that they feel jealous and resentful of me, others feels that I am doing their job to impress and show off in our my boss. I am not that kind of person, I am doing it because it is in instruction from manager and nothing else.

There are many types of workers behavior and attitude towards works, in my own point of view here are as follows;

  1. Workers who chooses who to follow.

    "There is a scenario that my manager instruct me to relay a message to one of our workers to do a certain task, when I relay the message to the specific person, these person will never follow my instruction instead he will to our office and talk to our manager."

  2. Workers that stick to boss or supervisor

    " They are the person that they feel safe if they stick to supervisor, because sometimes these supervisor, cover them from leaving and not beeing seen in their respective areas."

  3. Workers that are envious and afraid of being overtaken.

    " I have a certain person that are not in good terms with because of the bahavior, he is always afraid that my boss is looking up to me. He always wanted to be the only one who is always praised.

  4. Slanderous workers

    " These kind of workers is a very dangerous kind of companion, because once you turn your back from them you don't know, you are already insulted and bringing you down. People like this sometimes cause some workers to lose their jobs.

  5. Workers who cheat on times and works.

    " I have encounter this attitude to our workers, the scenario was our manager give instruction to me that we should send housekeeping and maintenance to other property beside us. Since we are working in a high rise building, there are some residents that throw garbage from their balcony in the other property, which was two story building. These worker was advice that monday morning at 8 o'clock they should start to clean, but when I was lookig for for him but everyone says that he hasnt around yet. By 9:30 I saw him doing a sideline job, the guard at the lobby reported that he arrive 9:31 but when he log in at the logbook he write 8:30. He do it on purpose to be late, because he doesnt want to go and clean on the other property.

  6. Workers who choose what works to do and do not want.

    " The workers sometimes have misunderstanding because of this attitude, they choose to have this misundertanding rather than to work together and help each other to finsh the certain task.

Aside from those that I listed, i know there are lot more, but it will depend on your observation in your nature of work.

I can say that whenever I am at work, I do not give command to every subordinates that i have for my own benefits and purpose. I never asked them to buy something or anything like for exmaple napkins and other personal things. I always stick to the scope of works assigned to me, and I am not a person who loves to be the "JACK of TRADES".

If you are doing it in a right way without bringing down the others then it is good but; when you are doing it and bringing down someone just to be on top then that is bad. I dont know and really understand why someone loves to be that kind of person.

Eventhough I have workmates that are not good with, my life still going on because I know to myself that I havent done wrong.

My perspective towards work is that, i did not find job to have friends, though having friends in your work is a bonus. My sole purpose of looking for a job is for my family, for our livelihood. The company pays me right so i have to serve and do my job well.
